I've been trying to get a 5* hotel in London for the dates listed in the title over the past couple days with no luck. I'm up to $240 and I'm wondering how much higher I'm going to need to go. Priceline is quoting $414 for similar hotels.

Any ideas?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

There is $170 difference between what you have bid already and the best rate you're quoting thru a non-opaque source (which i assume is for a 5* hotel in one of these zones)... not all hotels are willing to discount that much. As well, as rates go up, it means that occupancy levels are high, so if there are only a few rooms left the hotels may not be willing to discount as much (even on a percentage basis) as when occupancy levels are low.

Just as an example, when occupancy is low and a hotel is 'trying' to fill rooms, they may price their direct rates at $200/nite and be willing to offer a discount of 50% to the opaque suppliers... when rates are high (and occupancy levels are high as well) they may price their direct bookings at $400/nite and only be willing to offer discounts of 10%-25% to the opaque suppliers.

It's still early and plenty of time between now and your stay, how high are you willing to bid for a 5* property? Do you have a cancellable back-up reserved? (if so, where and how much)
