queenstella Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 I'm a first-time bidder and I understand there's a major convention that weekend, but was hoping for some advice. We're interested in the museums and are not adverse to walking. Any help would be much appreciated.
thereuare Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! We wouldn't want to suggest a strategy which went higher than you were willing to pay, what is your maximum bid? What are the rates you're finding thru conventional means (use our BetterChecker.com to assist in your rate search). Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 This is one of the year's biggest conventions in the city. While I would recommend trying to bid as soon as possible, I think the greater likelyhood is that you will probably not be successful until closer to the date - if at all.
queenstella Posted April 11, 2008 Author Report Posted April 11, 2008 I think we'd be comfortable with about $100-120 per night. I haven't seen much out there less than $250. I started with bids at $85 and there was nothing available. Any hints are much appreciated.
thereuare Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 You maximum bid should be based upon your best deal without the opaque suppliers.Given the convention, and the rates you're seeing thru conventional booking sources, what will you do if not successful with the opaque suppliers (PRICELINE or HOTWIRE)? Would you raise your maximum bid amount, stay outside of the city and commute in, lower your star rating, etc?Based upon current rates, to stay in the downtown zones, i don't think you're close. queenstella Posted April 12, 2008 Author Report Posted April 12, 2008 My bid for $157 was accepted for the W Hotel LakeShore 5/16-5/19. I was a little freaked out by the convention and space seemed to be at a premium, so I'm satisfied with this price. Thanks for the help!
thereuare Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 Congratulations on your win.Given the prices i was seeing earlier i think this is a very good win. May be more than you originally intended on spendig, but with rates at this property $400+/nite for the dates of your stay, it's easy to see how well you did.Thank you for sharing your winning bid with the board. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay. AaronJB Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 Very impressive win. I'd recommend the Fox and Obel Cafe and Market (fox-obel.com for menu) a few blocks South on Illinois and McClurg. Very nice market and the cafe has breakfast/lunch/dinner.
