joebaby Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 I have been reading alot on the BB site and thought I was ready to try bidding - I connected via the BB link and was rejected for 2 rooms, 3* around Dorval/Ptrudeau Airport: Bid $47(total 117.4) for Dorval; $52(129.18) for Pointe Claire; then $57(140.96) for Dorval and Pointe Claire.so I have a couple of questions,What should my max bid be if Hotwire lists hotels in Dorval 3* at $89, 3.5 star at $119 and another 3* in Pointe Claire at $124?What are the additional fees and tax added to a Hotwire rate to compare?Love this site! Thanks
thereuare Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! There is not necessarily a direct correlation between the rates HOTWIRE shows and what you should bid on PRICELINE. It's not necessarily an 'x percent' answer, as well, you may not be comparing apples-to-apples since the two services can (and foten do) rate the same hotel differently (when there is a difference, HOTWIRE usually assigns a little higher star rating).Your maximum bid should be based upon what you will likely do if you don't succeed with PRICELINE... what is the best deal you can find outside of the opaque providers (and if you didn't success with PRICELINE, which of the HOTWIRE offerings would you go with).Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. joebaby Posted April 7, 2008 Author Report Posted April 7, 2008 So I would take the hotwire 3.5* at $119 which I think is the Hilton (shuttle, pool, business center, fitness center, restaraunt and Internet). Please advise.
thereuare Posted April 8, 2008 Report Posted April 8, 2008 rejected for 2 rooms, 3* around Dorval/Ptrudeau Airport: Bid $47(total 117.4) for Dorval; $52(129.18) for Pointe Claire; then $57(140.96) for Dorval and Pointe ClaireFor the zones bolded above, are these the same zone, or is should one of them be "Montreal Downtown" (or some other zone)... were there 2 or 3 zones which you were willing to accept? joebaby Posted April 8, 2008 Author Report Posted April 8, 2008 I am looking close to Montreal's Airport, Either Dorval or Pointe Claire just 2 zones.
thereuare Posted April 9, 2008 Report Posted April 9, 2008 Next opportunity i would try:Select 3* Dorval...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and re-access thru our link to PRICELINESelect 3* Pointe Claire...Bid $70, if rejected close browser and re-access thru our link to PRICELINESelect 3* Dorval and Pointe Claire...Bid $75Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. joebaby Posted April 17, 2008 Author Report Posted April 17, 2008 Thanks for the advice, I am still working on this Montreal Airport Hotel ... Last try was Dorval and Pointe Claire bid $78. I got a message to increase price by $22 and bid again. Is this a real price or should I wait 24 hours and keep plugging away in smaller increments?
thereuare Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 It's a one nite stay so if you just want to be "done" with it you can accept it and increase your bid to that amount. If you're looking to shave a few dollars you can try again as follows:Select 3* Dorval...Bid $83, if rejected close browser and re-access thru our link to PRICELINESelect 3* Pointe Claire...Bid $83, if rejected close browser and re-access thru our link to PRICELINESelect 3* Dorval and Pointe Claire...Bid $87.If that is rejected 24 hours later you can try:Select 3* Dorval...Bid $92, if rejected close browser and re-access thru our link to PRICELINESelect 3* Pointe Claire...Bid $92, if rejected close browser and re-access thru our link to PRICELINESelect 3* Dorval and Pointe Claire...Bid $97.I suspect you'll be successful with one of the above. The risk is that there is only one room available at the $100 mark their suggesting and somebody else bids and takes it it within the next 48 hours. Given your stay is a few months away i'd put this risk as "low", but not sure how quickly you're trying to get this done. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes of if we can be of further help.
