whoknowswhere Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Am interested in winning the 2.5* Hyatt Place in Raleigh. Read post from December of '07 that indicated the bidder added South Raleigh knowing that it did not have any 2.5's. I don't see South Raleigh on the Priceline Hotel list and am a little nervous about adding it since I really don't want to end up there... Any info? I did some bidding late last night and was rejected for both. Just registered on this site and am a newbie with all of this. Will use your PRICELINE link for future bids...1st bid: Raleigh/Durham (raleigh) $382nd bid: added Crabtree $40both rejected.
thereuare Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! You can't bid for a specific hotel. Just to be clear, you could receive any hotel in the zone(s) that you bid at the minimum star rating you select. Is it acceptable if you win a hotel other than the Hyatt Place? Is the Crabtree zone also acceptable, as you added that zone to your bidding, and not sure if you were also interested in staying in that zone as well. The post you read where the user added the South zone, s/he did so as a re-bid. You can read about re-bidding here: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained. You have one re-bid zone available when bidding 2.5 stars in Raleigh (and as you suspected in questioning the south zone above, you should check them before each bidding cycle). Please see the re-bidding link above and confirm your re-bid zones with the board OR ask questions that you have if you're unable to figure out your re-bid zones, and we'll break it down further for you.Once you have your re-bid zones figured out, let us know the date(s) of your stay, maximum bid, and your preferences for this stay (ie- do you really just want the Raleigh zone, is the Crabtree zone also acceptable, if Raleigh si your prefered zone, are you willing to bid higher for just the Raleigh zone before adding Crabtree, etc) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. whoknowswhere Posted April 4, 2008 Author Report Posted April 4, 2008 Thanks for the help! I had read so much great info here that I had forgotten @ clicking on each zone to see which *ratings appear with each. THANKS. Now I know for certain that raleigh south does not have anything higher than a 2. I am not tied to any particular area, just trying to get the most bang for the least buck, and still find a good clean room. Also, I actually would prefer a nice 2.5 as opposed to a 3, because I'd rather not pay for "extras" like breakfast, wifi, parking, etc. Am really on a tight budget, especially considering the cost of gas these days... Anyway, I know I can't bid for a specific hotel, but I was hoping , since Hyatt Place is the only 2.5 in that zone, that I would end up there. It seems to show up on this site as being awarded a good bit. Lets proceed with the idea that I really want that zone, though if all that fails, I would consider other areas, but my price might be adjusted lower. (some other areas seem to sell for less.) As far as the max I will pay, I guess I don't want to go too much further than the $40 was rejected, since it looks like others have gotten booked at that price. Maybe 42 or 44? Do you think that's do-able? Dates are 4/5 - 4/7 (checking in Saturday and checking out Monday.)THANKS AGAIN!!
thereuare Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Since $40 was just recently rejected, and you're only willing to go up to $44 before considering other zones, i'd just try:Select 2.5* Raleigh...Bid $42, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $44.If that is rejected and you don't wish to bid higher for this zone, let us know the other zone(s) you're willing to accept and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. whoknowswhere Posted April 4, 2008 Author Report Posted April 4, 2008 Since it had been less than 24 hours since my first try, I went back in and re-bid using Raleigh/Durham (Raleigh) and added Raleigh/Durham (south) at $42. To my suprise, it was accepted, BUT instead of the Hyatt Place, I got a hotle that I did not see previously listed: Courtyard By Marriott Raleigh North. The best price via the assorted hotel sites on TripAdvisor is about $134/night. Thanks, again for your assistance.Bid $38 Raleigh declinedAdded Crabtree re-bid $40 declinedRe-Bid (through this webpage PRICELINE Link): Raleigh plus Raleigh South $42 acceptedCourtyard By Marriott Raleigh North ($42)Best Price Found Online $84.00Correction: Just found better retail rate online ($84) but that still makes my $42 rate look good!
thereuare Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 Congratulations on your win!Glad to hear you were successful at just a few dollars more than your previously rejected bid. While maybe not the hotel you were hoping for, i'm sure for the price it'll work out just fine for your needs, and hopefully is in a good location for your plans.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and for using our PRICELINE links to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
