Priceline Hotel: Advice/Strategy? - 4* Toronto (Downtown)

Advice/Strategy? - 4* Toronto (Downtown) for 3 nights

Arrive: Thurs., 4/10 and Depart: Sun., 4/13

I have used PRICELINE and the bidding strategy before and wanted to see if any Canada experts had any strategy advice. I took a look at HOTWIRE and the cheapest 4* was $64/night for a Toronto Downtown West hotel. From the amenities, it is either the Renaissance or the Hilton. If I recall correctly, PRICELINE usually beats HOTWIRE's rates. Should I start at $50, $55, increments?

If anyone has any advice where to start my bidding and to go from there, I would be very grateful. Thank you!

Well, I don't consider myself an expert or anything but having stayed at both the downtown Toronto Hilton and the Rennaisance (attached to Rogers Centre), they are both a steal at $64. As you most likely know, if you bid 4* on Priceline it's really a crapshoot as to which hotel will jump up. Lately it seems like the Marriot Bloor-Yorkville has been popping up. I've also stayed there. Nice hotel but not really a 4* in my opinion. In fact, not too long ago Priceline had it rated at 3*. To sum up, you may save a few bucks on Priceline but you might be better off to go with the Hotwire deal in this case. But if you were to choose to go ahead with Priceline then $50 would be a reasonable starting point. I see there was a 4* win at $56 not too long back. And it was the Marriot Bloor-Yorkville.

Ooops ... just saw that the Sheraton was won for $60 on Priceline. Also a super hotel and a super deal.

I have seen wins at the Rensaissance (which was also rated 3* until fairly recently) on Priceline for about $55, so there's a good chance that this hotel will come up if you bid. $50 is a good starting bid; you have a lot of rebid zones, so you can start even lower if you want to.
