gratianus Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 PRICELINE advises that 3star hotels downtown go on average for $352 a night, an inflated number in my opinion even for the rack rate, so I bid about 1/3 of that amount ($121) and "won" five nights at the Holiday Inn, which on Hotwire et al runs a little less than $160 a night. I was surprised to see a hotel PRICELINE rates as 3stars come in so cheaply, and I wonder about how easily PRICELINE hands out these designations.

gratianus Posted April 4, 2008 Author Report Posted April 4, 2008 I was placed in the Holiday Inn Downtown (1501 Rhode Island Avenue NW), not the Capitol Holiday Inn. The dates are 4.17, depart 4.22. I am truly puzzled by how Priceline places both these Holiday Inns in the 3* category, though one is offering rooms on the Holiday Inn site for about $168 a night, while the range at the other is $270 and up. Clearly Holiday Inn believes these two hotels provide different levels of hospitality. How does Priceline advise that the average rate for a 3* downtown is $320, and then comes up with a 3* that is offering its rooms at $168? My bid was $121 and predicated on the higher "average" price.
