thjester Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Needed 4* room for Friday and Saturday night. I selected strip north and strip south.Bid $60 Rejected. Counter Offer $95. I did not accept at first.used rebid zone $70, rejected no counterused rebid zone again $81, rejected no counterMost of the 3* rooms were listed between *140 and $160. The 4* were $180-$190. I got scared I'd never get a better deal and it wasn't worth the risk for the extra $30 or so, so I went back to the counter offer listed under "My Trips" from the day before and accepted the $95 counter. Got the Westin. I was hoping for planet hollywood, but I'm happy with the Westin. Much happier than I would have been with the Luxor. Should I have been more patient? Now I have to secure a room for 8/3-8/5 (Sunday-Wednesday). Do I have any hopes of getting a 4*, strip north?
mrxow Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Welcome to Betterbidding :)It is interesting that the counter offer was still valid after you continued bidding. I don't have any experience that said is shouldn't be, but if they continue to be available after bidding, why ever stop bidding?Does anyone know how long counter offers are good for? Was it 24 hours and that is why you grabbed it when you did? There is a long time before August, so maybe you jumped the gun a little, but you're doing a lot better than all the people who are too scared to use PL.Somebody won Treasure Island at some point, so sure, you might be able to get a 4 star north strip if you keep at it. You have lots of time. But is your stay for longer than the time period for which you made your first bid?
thereuare Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Thank you for sharing yoru winning bid with the board.Under $100 is usually very good for weekend nites in the strip zone, although you probably could have shaved a few dollars off of the $95 offer you accepted. The counter-offers dont' expire, but there is no guarantee that the rate availble (the reason for the counter-offer) will still be available when you try at a later date. So for example, let's assume that there was one room available at $95 for the dates above, and you decide to keep bidding over the course of a week. In that timeframe somebody else comes along and wins this hotel and takes that last room... later in the week you can still use the counter-offer button, but the offering will no longer be available. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
