ghost81 Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 So I was looking at bidding on a resort hotel in Waikiki. I did a priceline hotel search for my travel dates and instead of returning all 4-5 resort hotels in that area (according to the hotel list) it only returned 3. If I were to use the Name Your Own Price feature.... is it likely I'll get one of the hotels that it returned in the search? I'd assume that since the other hotels didn't show as available during the regular priceline search, they don't have availability at those hotels if I were to name my own price either. Can anyone confirm if this is the way it works?Cheers..mike
ghost81 Posted March 26, 2008 Author Report Posted March 26, 2008 Never mind... Of course this is answered in the PRICELINE FAQ!duh! :-)
ghost81 Posted March 26, 2008 Author Report Posted March 26, 2008 I've bid multiple times by adding in areas that don't have resorts. I bid in 10.00 increments from 150 up to 180, with no success. I'm going to be in Oahu from 7/16 - 7/24. Has anyone managed to book a resort in Waikiki during that time? Any idea on pricing? After looking at previous years success stories in July, it looks like most people bid in June. Do hotels hold out giving priceline inventory, this far out, in the hopes they can sell the rooms on their own? I figure I'll try every day to get a good rate, but was curious anyway.
thereuare Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 Has anyone managed to book a resort in Waikiki during that time?None yet, but keep an eye on the Priceline Calendar of Wins for your particular dates.Do hotels hold out giving priceline inventory, this far out, in the hopes they can sell the rooms on their own? That is always their objective. They have an idea of where they should be in ocupancy levels at the moment for any given date in the future... if occupancy levels are inline they may offer the opaque suppliers rooms with very little discounts, if occupancy levels are much lower than expected they will offer rooms at deep discounts, and if higher than expected they may offer no rooms at all.Any idea on pricing? What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional means? (use our BetterChecker.com to assit in your search)Do you need a Resort for this stay? What appears to be the Hawaii Prince is available on HOTWIRE for $165/nite... i've stayed there and would be happy to return, but it's not on the beach if that's what you're looking for (nor is it in the 'city' area itself, but somewhat close) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
ghost81 Posted March 26, 2008 Author Report Posted March 26, 2008 I have plenty of time. I managed to get a 205.00/night AAA rate for the Marriott Waikiki under a refundable reservation. I figure I'll hold this as a backup if I don't manage to get a priceline reservation for less. My wife and I definitely wanted something close to the beach and with a nice pool, things resorts tend to have. Also, last time I was in Hawaii, I stayed at the Hale Koa, but since I'm no longer eligible, I have to deal with Waikiki's costs, as a real person now. :-D It was nice staying on the beach for under a hundred bucks a night. :-D
