You can likely undercut that PRICELINE offer...

Was this your first bid? Which zone(s) did you include in your bidding? (if only Union Square East or Union Square West... do you only want that particular zone, or if avaialble would you want a less expensive 4* hotel in the other zone)

I assume $102 is within your maximum bid amount?

I started off with a 4 star in Union Suqare East for $75 and next added Union Square West for $80. Then it came back with a counter offer of $102.

Yes, you are right about the maximum I would be putting: about $100, which translates to about $250 for 2 days including tax and fees.

I prefer Union Square because I am not planning to drive. Union Square is probably the most convinent location (in terms of eating, shopping and travelling to other part of the city) in the city. Is that right? Or is there another location is as convinent as if not more than Union Square but with cheaper hotels?

I would want a more comfortable and quiet hotel. And San Franc they have these hotels called boutique (sorry, Los Angeles doesn't have anything like this). Is a boutique like a 3 star but declorated and a little bit more luxuary than a regular 3 star? So I think I would want to try a boutique which I never tried before.

I would, that's an excellent deal. It's the people trying to book a room on the 05/16-05/18 w/e that aren't getting any deals. A 4* room for $100/night near Union. I'd be gleeful to book that!

Please forgive me for my naiveness. What's so special about those dates? It's not memorial day, not completely weekend, no holiday. Is there a major event or show in the city? Why so difficult to find deals?

Unfortunately Boutique can mean just about anything (i'm not a fan of this category)... it can be an upper tier hotel with high-end amenities, personalized service, and eclectic decour... it can also be an old, small hotel, with few rooms and few services, with not much really making it 'boutiqu-y'. My preference is to stick with 4 stars whenever possible, but it's your stay and you know your risk tolerances better.

I think you will have success at $100 or under for a 4*, so not sure if that's the route you want to go or of you're now looking to lower your star category (in the hierarchy Boutique properties are classififed between 3* and 4* hotels) and bid for a Boutique.

Let us know and we'll advise accordingly.

The reason that the May 16th - 18th w/e is blacked out in most deals is because on Sunday is the 'Bay to Breakers Race'. Just google it if you want to find out more. It sound awesome, but my SO and I are flying out Sunday aft. so basically we'll be missing out on the hotel deals and the race. :)

Participation alone runs around 70,000 people!

Oh I see. I guess I better stick with 4* then. Forget about the boutique. I was mislead by the how priceline classifies a boutique hotel like you said in-between 3* and 4*.

I tried put to in $77 for a boutique and it counteroffered with $99. But I will give up triying boutique after what I heard about a boutique.
