alebs Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 Hello, I am a bit familiar with priceline and rebidding. I am looking for a room in Ricmond on 3/3/08 5/3/08 and dont care where or what the star rating is. I would like to spend under $70. Not sure how to go about bidding seeing as though I dont have any preferences. I am prepared to use the savings barn sight to link to PRICELINE. Thanks
urso_polar Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 Hi, I will give you some questions that I am sure that moderator will ask you. Is it 1 night only ? 3/3/08 can't be right. What zones are acceptable ? Is the cheapest $ per night your goal ? You'd probably end up in something comparable to motel 8. a 1 star ? or Do you want the highest star rating that $70 will buy ? To give you an idea, These are my guesses what your money can buy, though of course it depends on your dates & zones.$30 1 star$35 2 star$45 2.5 starmore for higher stars but doable for under $70The moderator will probably have you start bidding under these amounts.Savings barn is no longer the recommended bidding start. Cick the support /travel tab & then on priceline to start biddingafter you answer the questions above , you'll gt more helphappy bidding mark
alebs Posted March 22, 2008 Author Report Posted March 22, 2008 Im sorry, it is actually for 5/3/08 and it will be for one night. Im really looking for something cheap seeing as though I will not be in the room for long. Any zone is acceptable
urso_polar Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 the cheapest price on hotwire was $173 & only 3 hotels available. This is partly due to many hotels won't sell just a saturday night inexpensively. When I request more nights, the price drops to $119. Still seems high, Is something going on that weekend? Be that as it may, 2 stars in 2005 went as low as $26.I am not a moderator, so this is what I'd do in your shoes.until you get an acceptance. this requires patience & returning the next day until your a bid gets accepted Decide on a bidding limit. then bid 1 starzone a $25zone b $25zone c $25zone d $25zone e $25zone f $25zone g $25zone h $25next try a&b $27next try a&c $27next try a&d $27 next try a&e $27next try a&f $27next try a&g $27next try a&h $27next try b&c $29next try b&d $29 next try b&e $29next try b&f $29next try b&g $29 next try b&h $29next try a&b&c $29next try c&d $31 next try c&e $31next try c&f $31next try c&g $31 next try c&h $31next try a&b&d $31next try d&e $33next try d&f $33next try d&g $33 next try d&h $33next try a&b&e $33next try e&f $35next try e&g $35 next try e&h $35next try a&b&f $35next try c&d&e $35I'd stop here not willing to pay more than this for a 1 star, I'd wait for more help from a moderator who may tell you are bidding too soon.Moderator, I have never given bidding advice before , so I hope I haven't stepped out of bounds
thereuare Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 Anyone is free to help out and give advice...One more question to the OP:Im really looking for something cheap seeing as though I will not be in the room for long. Are you sure you'll be comfortable in a 1 star property? The 'value' is usually at the higher star levels, but even if you only need a bed to sleep in, i'd recommed sticking to at least 2* and above... while there may be some 1* properties you're comfortable staying in, there may be some that are not, and when buying an 'unknown' hotel it's often best to error on the side of caution... but it's your stay and your money, so let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy to follow (if it differs from the above at all)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
