hotelbidonline1 Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Given the auto show in town during the days I have to be there (next week, March 25-28), maybe I should just try New Jersey?....I 've gone down to 2* and bid $210 for all zones except Long Island City and Brooklyn - any advice? I really can't go above $250/night. Thanks for any advice!
thereuare Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you're looking at Jersey City i'm not sure how much that will help as 2 out of the 3 hotels on the waterfront (which is where you want to be) are sold-out. Only option there is the Candlewood Suites Jersey City (please use thsi link if you go this route) for $239/nite.I'm sure the pricepoint will improve a bit if you move further out into NJ, but how far out are you willing to go? The JC is by far the most convenient, but the Secaucus area isn't too bad if you saves you a significant amount of money. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Your thoughts? hotelbidonline1 Posted March 22, 2008 Author Report Posted March 22, 2008 Thanks for any suggestions before I try Hotwire - I've never used Hotwire, only Priceline. At this point I'll settle for any room practically anywhere, but would be thrilled to get a 3* for under $250. My meetings are in Midtown but easy to get to from anywhere. Thanks for your help!
hotelbidonline1 Posted March 22, 2008 Author Report Posted March 22, 2008 Thanks so much for the help! The office where I'll be meeting is in Midtown so it would be nice to be someplace near a PATH line - I wonder if Newark is an option?
thereuare Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. In my opinion the Secaucus area would be a better option than Newark... the commute, even though by bus, is shorter and will take you to the Port Authority... from Newark the PATH goes downtown unless you're willing to transfer PATH trains.Do any hotels in the Secaucus area within your budget show up on a HOTWIRE search? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. hotelbidonline1 Posted March 22, 2008 Author Report Posted March 22, 2008 Thanks for keeping my posts orderly - I figured since the second one was a Hotwire question I should put it there - sorry!I saw some places in Secaucus but I'm nervous about having to take a bus into the city and then leaving by myself in the evenings to go back there. The PATH to Newark always looked pretty populated in the evenings so I thought it might be better. I used to commute several days into Midtown from central Jersey so I can handle a commute! Just the bus and traffic thing to an unfamiliar area seems iffy....
thereuare Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 The only hotel right by the PATH station is the Hilton Newark Penn Station which is actually connected to the Station (not in the station, but connected via a walkway). You won't want to venture outside of the hotel area at nite, but the bigger problem is if you don't book direct (please use our link above if you go that route), you can't choose this specific hotel, and can (most likely) end up near the airport... and getting to/from Newark Penn Station then becomes an issue.Secaucus, especially if you can ID the property beforehand thru HOTWIRE and figure know the bus situation ahead of time, would be much easier than Newark, as most of the hotels are within walking distance of the bus stop or the hotel offers a shuttle to get to a bus stop.
