NYC Manic Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Alright I am sure that this has been asked hundreds of times, but I have been looking and I still don't understand.I am 18 years old and plan on travelling to New York at the end of April with a couple friends. I will be turning 19 while I am there, but I have noticed on priceline that it says that the person purchasing the hotel must be 21 or older. It also says that ID is required when you go to the hotel. Does this mean that I can't book a hotel through priceline?I am also wondering how low should I start my bidding, I would like to get the nicest possible hotel for the cheapest price! haha it has seemed to be recommended a lot sticking within the 3-4* range. but seeing as so far there is only one other person (hopinf for two more) and I am a university student, I would like to keep it under 200$. I do realize that this is going to be difficult because from what I have heard april is an expensive month in NY.I would prefer to stay as close to Times Square as possible (you may say that I wont spend a lot of time there, but I am going mainly to see broadway shows...) but I don't mind taking the subway, as long as it isnt too far away.Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!
thereuare Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!Your age could be an issue. PRICELINE has to have 'rules' which cover themselves for all situations. Since many hotels have minibars in the rooms, which contain alcohol, they have a 21 year old minimum age requirement. You could get lucky and receive a hotel whose minimum age requirement is 18, or a clerk who isn't aware of the age requirement (since i would guess somebody under 21 years trying to check-in happens fairly rarely in NYC), but you could also get a hotel clerk that does care and won't let you check-in.So not sure if PRICELINE is the best option for you for this trip. NYC Manic Posted March 24, 2008 Author Report Posted March 24, 2008 thanks so much for answering my question, it is rather unfortunate though!! I have another question... its not really reguarding priceline, but I figured it would be easier to just continue the thread i already statred than to start a whole new one. I have been looking on hotwire a lot lately and I have noticed this section:http://www.hotwire.com/deals/hotelLanding....&wid=w-ULR4I know my dates arent up yet, but what are the chances of me actually getting a hotel for the date I am looking at? I also realize it is risky but I am looking for a room for 4 people.Secondly how hard is it to get from Long Island or Brooklyn into like Times Square? Are there subways or would we have to take a taxi? Thanks so much for any helo you can give me!
thereuare Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Those 'deals' are just taken from the offering pages of a HOTWIRE hotel search, they're not anything 'special' (imo).Getting from Long Island to NYC can be a looong trip depending upon where on Long Island you are staying. There are no subways, but there is the Long Islarnd Railraod (LIRR) but your problem will likely be more of one getting from the hotel to the LIRR station. As well, the train ride is not that cheap if you intend on commuting daily (or multiple times per day).If you're considering booking NYC for double occupancy when you'll actually be quad occupancy, I think you may be pushing your luck a bit... between that and the minimum age requirement (HOTWIRE also requires 21 year old minimum) you're making a few assumptions that "it will work out ok", when it may not. NYC Manic Posted March 24, 2008 Author Report Posted March 24, 2008 Ya I think I have come to terms with the fact that i am going to have to start looking somewhere else.I really appreciate all your help though! thanks for answering all my questions! :)
thereuare Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 You may want to try Quickbook and GTA Hotels... both have good rates of some properties and you would be able to call the hotel before booking to find out the minimum age requirement ot check-in.
