miga
Hi there, I've tried Priceline once before but hope you can suggest a bidding strategy for New York Apr 7-13, 4* in the order of preference for zones: TS, MTE, MTW, MTS, UM CPS. Would like to spend up to $175 if this sounds reasonable for this time of year.Saw a win for the Sheraton for $160 for 2 nights but our stay is for 6 nights which is a little more difficult. thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding!in the order of preference for zones...I assume that price is more important than zone? (ie- you'd prefer a less expensive hotel in the UM-CPS zone rather than a more expensive hotel in the Times Sqaure zone)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
miga
Actually zone is probably a little more important than price. We expect to pay a bit more in Times Square. Why doesn't this topic appear in the main forum page for New York. It took me a while to find it? Link to comment
thereuare
There are three forums within the NEW YORK category:-Priceline and Hotwire Hotel Lists and Tips-Hotwire Hotels - bidding help and hotels won-Priceline Hotels - bidding help and hotels wonThis is a bidding help request so it goes in the third category :) (it's neither a hotel list nor a tip about visiting NYC, so doesn't belong in the first category)So how high do you want to go in the Times Square zone before moving on to the other zones? miga
Ahh....I understand the categories now. Thanks for making this clear.Max for Times Square is $200. $175 for the rest of the zones. Hope this is realistic. Link to comment
thereuare
I think your budget is going to be tough for these stay, but we can give it a try... to confirm, you want to bid up to your maximum budget for a 4* hotel in Times Square before trying the other zones (at lower bid amounts) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
miga
Yes that's correct. Ready to start bidding. Thanks so much for your assistance! Link to comment
thereuare
At the 4* level you have four re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Times Square...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access PRICELINE thru our link.Select 4* Times Square and re-bid zone2...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access PRICELINE thru our link.Select 4* Times Square and re-bid zone3...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and re-access PRICELINE thru our link.Select 4* Times Square and re-bid zone4...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and re-access PRICELINE thru our link.Select 4* Times Square and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone3...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access PRICELINE thru our link.Select 4* Times Square and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone4...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and re-access PRICELINE thru our link.Select 4* Times Square and re-bid zone3 and re-bid zone4...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $190, if rejected close browser and re-access PRICELINE thru our link.Select 4* Times Square and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone3 and re-bid zone4...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $200.Any questions feel free to ask. If the above is rejected we'll then supply a strategy to follow for the other NYC zones, although wtih $200 in Times Square being rejected, i think you may want to consider upping your limit for the other zones to $200 as well (unless you have some suitable alternative plan for less than that)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. miga
Hi - no luck with a win in Times Square. Can you suggest a bidding strategy for the other zones now with a limit of $200 as well? Thanks! Link to comment
thereuare
Quick question...Did you want to bid all the other zones now, or try up to your limit for MTE, then up to your limite for MTW, etc, etc? Also, are you keeping your bidding limit at $175 for these other zones? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
miga
Hi I'd like to bid all the other zones now with a limit of $200 with preference in order of MTE, MTW, MTS, UM CPS. If I'm not successful, I'm prepared to start with Times Square again and up my bid even more but I'll remain optimistic with the other zones for now. Your previous instructions/bidding strategy was very easy to follow this morning. Thanks! Ready to start bidding again. Link to comment
thereuare
with preference in order of MTE, MTW, MTS, UM CPS.So to clarify... you want to go up to your limit for MTE, if that fails then try MTW up to your limit, then try MTS up to your limit, etc, etc? Please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy to follow. miga
This wasn't actually what I meant but that's ok. Let's go with the bidding strategy you just suggested. Thanks. Link to comment
thereuare
Did you prefer to aim for the least expensive in any of the zones above? (that is how most users typically bid, as price is usually more important than zone... just trying to give you what you're looking for :) ) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
miga
I guess that's what I was after when I suggested I was ready to bid on the remaining zones. I think I confused things when I listed the preference. Sorry! Link to comment
thereuare
Not a problem... just making sure we're on the same page.Even though you have four re-bid zones available, we only use three per cycle below in order to make the bids a bit more "tight" (less of a range per round of bidding) and because you dont' need them since you can easily get up to your $200 maximum bid without them.Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-acces PRICELINE.Select 4* UM-CPS and MTS...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-acces PRICELINE.Select 4* MTE and UM-CPS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-acces PRICELINE.Select 4* MTW and MTS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-acces PRICELINE.Select 4* MTW and UM-CPS...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-acces PRICELINE.Select 4* MTE and MTS...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-acces PRICELINE.Select 4* MTE and MTW and UM-CPS and Times Square and MTS...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good Luck and let s know how it goes. miga
Still no luck with a win. I actually bid $230 after the last reject by adding the 4th re-bid zone.Plan B - can you suggest another bidding strategy for 3*, up to max of $200 first in Times Square. If you think we should up our limit a bit for this zone, then please advise and we'll do that. If no win, can you suggest the bidding strategy for 3* in all other zones. I'm going to keep trying though our trip is less than 2 weeks away..... Link to comment
miga
Just to clarify my previous message, 'all other zones' means the previous zones I bid on...I don't want to add Brooklyn, Long Island, etc. Thanks. Link to comment

If you think we should up our limit a bit for this zone, then please advise and we'll do that.I actually don't agree with paying more to be in the Times Square zone, i would be bidding all the acceptable zones and seeking the lowest price out of any of them... but it's your trip and you know what you want, and need, from this stay better than i do. You can read more in this Times Square Hotels thread and let us know if you'd like to continue bidding with preference for the Times Square zone or if you'd like to seek out the least expenisve property in any of the acceptable zones. miga
You're right and I agree with the reviews about the craziness of Times Square. We stayed there last time and it was very very crowded. Please provide a bidding strategy for the least expensive in all zones, up to max of $200, 3* - thanks Link to comment

miga
No luck again. I checked hotwire for a week from now and the prices are pretty good and in the range....better than 2 weeks from now. I think I'll wait it out a little longer and try again in a few days. I'm pretty sure I'll find something in PRICELINE or HOTWIRE. There's plenty of hotels in NY. I'll use your strategy again in a few days unless you have any other suggestions. Really appreciate your help so far. Link to comment
thereuare
Only thing that i can add is to if SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID is an option.Six nites is not impossible, but if there is just one nite in that range with much higher rates than the other nites, it can affect your ability to get an accepted bid... but if you agree to split the bid you'll need to be willing to change hotels during your stay, which some people are willing to to in order to save $10 and others are not willing to do to save $200. miga
Tried again tonight to bid for a 4* up to $240 and 3* up to $200 with no luck. Splitting a bid will be an option but I haven't given up yet. Here's another option. There's a 3* on HOTWIRE for $183 from Apr 7 -11. We could take that and then bid on Priceline for the remaining 2 nights. Any idea what this hotel might be - description is fitness centre, coin laundry, kitchenette, business centre, high speed internet? Link to comment
thereuare
Which HOTWIRE zone is the above hotel located in? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
