ellruss Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 I bid $98 on a 5* Las Vega Strip North. The offer was refused with a counter of $190. I rebid $145 changing the selection to include Strip South as well. That was also refused. I will continue to post when I try again.

ellruss Posted March 18, 2008 Author Report Posted March 18, 2008 My backup plan is Treasure Island at $149 per night, so I really do not want to bid much more than $149. I know Palazzo or Venetian would be a nicer hotel, so maybe $159.The trip is to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, so I would like the hotel room to be as nice as possible. However, the more we spend on the hotel the less we have to spend on other fun!
ellruss Posted March 18, 2008 Author Report Posted March 18, 2008 Also, do the Priceline prices tend to go down closer to the trip date, assuming there is still availability? Since I have a backup plan, should I wait until a week or so before the trip to place the maximum bid I am willing to pay?BTW, I used betterbidding's links to access PRICELINE, and have now read the tips on how to Re-Bid. I did not realize you can place multiple rebids, and would not have thought to include the regions that do not have 5* available. Great tip, thanks!
thereuare Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 do the Priceline prices tend to go down closer to the trip dateSee the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.Since I have a backup plan, should I wait until a week or so before the trip to place the maximum bid I am willing to pay?I wouldn't, because i think a 5* hotel within your budget would still be an excellent deal... what if $159 would be accepted today but not accepted 3 weeks from now because the hotel gets more bookings than they anticipated? In fact, not only would i be bidding now, but i'd also increase your maximum bid to $160 at a minimum (just $1 more than you've stated above) but possibly higher as well and currently stick with just the North Strip. The experience of a 5* hotel in Vegas (in the North Strip most likely the Venetian or Palazzo) to me would be worth more than $10/nite over Treasure Island (which is a fine hotel in its own right... just not the Venetian or Palazzo). I think you have a chance at $160 or $165, but an even better chance at under $180, and at those prices i would seek out the 5 star... but it's your stay and your money, so you have to decide for yourself if it's worth it.Thanks for using our PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your purchases. If you need a more specific bidding strategy let us know and we'll type it out for you.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
