I am looking for a room for NYC for 3/27 to 3/31 of 08. I have a friends and family rate for the 5th Ave. Marriott for $259/night. Would I be able to do better using priceline but still stay in the times square district? Suggestions??

Welcome to BetterBidding!

I think the answer depends upon what you consider the Times Square District. If you only want to stay in Times Square itself then you may be able to do a little better... if you're more flexible and willing to accept any of the midtown zones, i think you can likely do better. To give you more 'food for thought', see our comments regarding wanting a Hotel in Times Square.

Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.

EDIT TO ADD: if you're flexible there are some really great deals on Quickbook, but they come with some caveats (ie- great hotel but small room, hotel during a 'soft opening', etc)... if you want to pursue them i'll explain further

I guess that any of the midtown zones would work. If I wanted to stay in the $150ish range, would I be more likely to get a 3* or should I try for the 4* ?

It depends upon what type of hotels you're accustomed to staying in, your budget, and what you look for from your hotel stays... do you use the services of a full service hotel, is the 'hotel experience' part of what you enjoy about traveling or is it more of a just a bed to sleep in, etc?

Although the trip is for fun, I will need to get some work done and tend to use some of the business center features and some of the other things that 4* hotels feature, but I could live with a 3*, especially if the price were right. I would really like to stay around the $200 range.

One good thing about NYC is that you're never too far from a Kinko's or similar type of place where you can take care of just about any business service you need.

My thoughts if you're looking for a 'deal':

Quikbook has the 6 Columbus Circle for $222/nite for the course of your stay. This is for a 'pod' room, which is small, but the hotel is first rate with high-end amenities and decor.

Quikbook also has the Gild (which is downtown) for $194/nite... this hotel is going thru a 'soft opening' so not all the amenities are available (ie- no restaurant, room service, etc... not sure about a business center, but as per above, i'm sure you can find something local nearby). If you're willing to split your stay and change hotels, you can actually book the last 3 nites of your stay here for just $168/nite (average) and find someplace else for the first nite. (for nearly $100/nite savings vs. the Marriott this would probably be worth it to me, but depends upon how much you want to stay in midtown (this is downtown) and/or willing to change hotels once during your stay)

Alternately, i see what is likely the Tudor Hotel at the UN available on HOTWIRE for $199/nite. You can go with this or try to beat it on PRICELINE.

I guess the price was right! :)

Indeed the rooms are very small, but at least yo now have an extra $100/nite to enjoy spending outside of your hotel room and enjoy what the city has to offer!

Thank you for using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.

Enjoy your stay.
