Priceline Hotel: 4* Toronto (Downtown) bid at $100 failed?

Hi guys,

Thanks for the site firstly. I've read a lot and learnt heaps.

I'm wondering if it's even worth continuing given that I just failed at a 4* bid in Toronto Downtown in Priceline, when Hotwire has it for $109.

Given I'm on international credit card (which priceline does not really accept except through the workaround) and Hotwire accepts int'l cc's, should I even bother?

Is it possible for Priceline to be higher in cost than Hotwire??

Each service uses their own star rating system, so the 4* you're seeing on HOTWIRE may not be a 4* on PRICELINE... what are the amenities associated with the 4* HOTWIRE hotel you're being offered?

Ahh yes, good point. I had previously used your hotel checker to ID the 4* HOTWIRE as Sheraton Centre (see below). However, for Priceline I believe there may be up to 8 possibilities.

So I guess you're saying that this is not an apples to apples comparison.

Ameneties are: Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-speed Internet Access, Spa Services. This was also a customer favourite. This seems to be a match for Sheraton Centre downtown west.

It's not always an apples-to-apples comparison, but in this instance, it does appear to be a fair comparison (assuming the guess (ours and yours... as we're in agreement) of the above being the Sheraton, since each service rates the Sheraton 4 stars).

If the Sheraton would be one of your top choices out of the eight possibilities than you may just want to purchase on HOTWIRE to increase the chances of that property vs. some of the other 4* hotels in the zone. If you this is near the bottom of the preference of likely properties than i would continue to bid on PRICELINE up until your bid price would exceed the price to purchase from HOTWIRE.

One other thing to note, is that HOTWIRE divides this Downtown area into two different zones, while PRICELINE uses one larger zone... this could also be a factor as to which service to use if location is important to you (ie- if you're trying to narrow it down to a smaller area).
