Lizzim Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Hi,I'm looking for a 3/4 star hotel for 2 nights from the 10th March 08. I currently have a reservation at The Belvedere for $209 +tax which includes breakfast. Just wondering if it is likely I can improve on this by bidding on priceline?Any help is appreciated :)
thereuare Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! It depends what you're looking for... i do think you have a very good chance at getting a lower rate for a 3* or better hotel in Manhattan, but the Belvedere gets good reviews (for a 3 star property) and by using an opaque service you may get something at the lower half of the 3 star range (or you could get something and getting something equal or better)... so it depends upon what you're looking for and how particular you are regarding the actual hotel you receive.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Lizzim Posted February 28, 2008 Author Report Posted February 28, 2008 Thanks for the welcome! :) If I were to bid my preference would be for a 4* hotel for a similar price to that which I have already got at the belvedere. I agree the reviews are generally good which is part of why I booked it, so I would only really want to change if I am getting more for my money. So I guess my question should be how likely am I to get a 4* property for around $200 +tax?
thereuare Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 I would put your chances less than 50/50, but certainly still worth trying. If you let us know which zone(s) you're willing to bid for a 4* we'll suggest a strategy to follow. Lizzim Posted February 29, 2008 Author Report Posted February 29, 2008 The areas I would be willing to bid on are: Midtown East, West and South and Times Square/Theatre District.A strategy would be a great help :)
thereuare Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Is there a reason you're avoiding the UM/CPS zone? It is usually considered convenient for the typical visitor, and including more zones increases the number of hotels which could possibly accept your bid... but not sure if there's a hotel you're trying to avoid or if this doesn't work well for your plans due to some other reason.Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy to follow. SK524 Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 Hi, just thought I'd throw in that if you are unsuccessful in bidding and are "stuck" with the Belvedere: I stayed there a few years ago ('03) and we were extremely pleased with it. Nice room, great location, the staff were very helpful, and the breakfast was super (full hot buffet in a nice big room). I'd definitely say you're getting a pretty good deal for $209/nt.
Lizzim Posted February 29, 2008 Author Report Posted February 29, 2008 No, no reason - unless you count the fact that I forgot it :)
