Fabio Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Hello, I have recently booked my plane tickets to New York for my graduation vacation and I am having trouble getting a good deal on a hotel in New York. I am looking at getting a 4* or a 3* hotel close to the action (times square). My dates are: June 7-13, 2008Can you provide any suggestions? I am willing to pay up to $200 a night (taxes included). Thanks for any help
thereuare Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please post your maximum budget per nite before taxes and fees (~$165/nite i'm guessing per your $200 all-in??)Which zones are you willing to accept? (be sure to read our comments regarding Hotels Near Times Square) Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3* or is the least expensive 3 star or better what you're seeking? Fabio Posted February 20, 2008 Author Report Posted February 20, 2008 Ok, I am willing to stay anywhere Midtown NYC. I am willing to pay $200 before taxes for a 4* or 3* hotel. What are my chances of getting a hotel to accept my offer on Priceline? What strategy should I use?

Fabio Posted February 22, 2008 Author Report Posted February 22, 2008 What do you consider an average price for a 4*?What about a 3*?I may go as high as $220 before taxes, but its pushing my budget. Thanks.
thereuare Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 There is no average price since rates are date specific.... at times $160 can be an excellent price in NYC, at other times it can be way too much. However, the question we're asking you above is if you wanted to try up to your limit for a 4* hotel or if the least expensive 3* or better hotel is what you're seeking. In other words, as an example, would you prefer a 4* hotel for $180 or a 3* hotel for $150?In NYC rooms are notoriously small that i recommend going with the highest star rating you're budget will allow, but that's just my take on it, and others feel that they're not in the room much so they can deal with a tiny room and would rather have some extra money to do other things in the city... there's no right/wrong answer, it's personal taste based upon your budget and what type of hotels you're accustomed to. Fabio Posted February 25, 2008 Author Report Posted February 25, 2008 I would prefer a 4* that cost $180 before taxes. That is my goal. My week is now 6/7-6/12/2008, my last day I will stay close to La Guardia airport. Hotwire gives me a 4* by central park south for $252/night. I feel I can do better on priceline.
Fabio Posted February 27, 2008 Author Report Posted February 27, 2008 On HOTWIRE it is offering me a 4* hotel in Central Park area for $262/night. It says that the Retail $695 and I save $433. Do you know what hotel this may be and if its a good deal? Can I get a better deal through Priceline?
Fabio Posted May 21, 2008 Author Report Posted May 21, 2008 Could you help me bid for a 4* Hotel during June 7-June 13. Would it be better to break up the dates, I would like to stay in the same hotel if possible. I'm looking at Times Square or Midtown area. I have bid up to $200 with no luck. Thanks.
thereuare Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. Are you back to your original dates of staying the coplete stay in Manhattan OR are you still looking to go to LGA for the last nite?I don't think you'll be successful for this complete stay at under $200/nite. You can probably find success for the first few days at that price, but the balance of your stay is going to cost more. If you choose to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID you need to be prepared to change hotels during your stay, as it's highly likely that you will win a different hotel.Let us know how you would like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Fabio Posted May 23, 2008 Author Report Posted May 23, 2008 Yes i'm ok with splitting up my days if that will help me win a bid. How much do you recommend I bid if I split up the days. And how would you split them? Again, my max bid will be $200/night before taxes.

thereuare Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 At the 4* level you have sixe re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE and MTW and Time Square and CPS and ESB...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use our links to re-access PRICELINE.Select 4* MTE and MTW and Time Square and CPS and ESB and re-bid zone5...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $175, if rejected close browser and use our links to re-access PRICELINE.Select 4* MTE and MTW and Time Square and CPS and ESB and re-bid zone6...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $200I'd go thru the above for the following date combinanions:6/7-6/136/7-6/126/8-6/136/7-6/116/9-6/136/7-6/106/10-6/136/7-6/9I don't think much of the above has a chance until you get to the last three date combinations, but if you have the time i would go thru it all to make sure your not missing out on a potential deal. As well, why i think your best chance is for the two nite stay (last date combination), not sure if you want to lock in only 2 nites out of the 6, but i've included it all so you can decide as you sound as if you may have hit the 'desperate' phase.Feel free to ask any questions you have. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
