Welcome to BetterBidding!

$150 is not likely to be enough for a 4* hotel for your dates above... we can suggest a strategy to follow, but if rejected, is your next step to try for a 3* hotel up to $150 or increase your budget for a 4* closer to your maximum?

Hi and thanks for your reply and welcome. Sorry for the delay, trawling through the choices and reviews so I can make something of an educated reply.

I guess I'm really looking for somewhere I'd feel comfortable and safe, but I'm not planning to spend much time in the room. I would probably go for a 4* looking through the reviews (but would take your advice if you think I'd do better on a 3 star). I have already prebooked a 3 star for USD1000, so there's nothing to lose. Thanks again.

Hi again, I just got the Hudson for USD199 excl taxes from Travelzoo. This seems OK to me (unless you think I can do better on Priceline?), so just wanted to say thanks for your help.

I think you can do better...

Thru Quikbook 6 Columbus Circle can be booked for $180/nite for a pod room (a full bed)... a larger room (King bed) can be had for $207/nite, and i think this would be BIG jump in quality vs. the Hudson Hotel.

Has anyone told you that you are a genius? That is amazing. Thanks so much - booked through the Quikbook link as suggested.

Just interested - if you have a moment - what makes 6 Columbus superior to the Hudson? Thanks!

Both have small rooms (although overcome with the slightly more expensive King bedded rooms at 6 Columbus Circle), but the Hudson is a 3 star hotel while 6 Columbus is a 4 star. While this difference can be subjective, 6 Columbus Circle is run by the Thompson group which have been renovating properties and opening them up as upscale hotels... designer architects, high end amenities (high thread count sheets and towels), etc. etc. 6 Columbus is recently open so things should still be fairly 'new' and still represent the style and 'chic' look that it was intended.

From 6 Columbus Circle:

6 Columbus, designed by the acclaimed Steven Sclaroff, is evocative of the mod 1960s design aesthetic infused with 21st century sensibility. Each one of the hotel's 88 rooms has a flat-panel plasma-screen TV, preloaded i-Pod, and broadband Internet connections. Teak and chrome run throughout the furnishings creating an overall sense of sleekness. The hotel showcases works from one of the world's most respected fashion photographers, Guy Bourdin.

The reviews of each speak for themselves:
