pfarrelli Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 Hi,First, I am new to this forum. Was recommended to me by a friend. She said it ROCKS!!I am not new to Priceline but hardly an expert. I have been very successful 3 times in the past getting 3* or 4* for under $180.I started bidding today for a room I need for tomorrow night and I am not doing so well.I am hoping for a $150 win or so.I have mixed and matched as much as I can think of for MTE MTW UM and TS, from $135 - $155 and I am getting no hits. I really don't want to go down to 2*PLEASE HELP!! Any suggestions would be GREAT!!PF
thereuare Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!I'm assuming you're looking for just one nite, 2/16? If so, seems like you may have already bid too high...You don't say if you're looking for the nicest hotel at $150 or less OR if you're looking for the least expensive 'acceptable' hotel. I have found the following which may suit your needs:Radisson on Lexington for $135/niteHOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in MTE for $139/nite (matches both the Grand Hyatt and the InterContinental Barclay so eithe of those would be our best guess... i'd give the edge on this one to the InterContinental)Please use the links above if you go this route.Let us know which you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
pfarrelli Posted February 16, 2008 Author Report Posted February 16, 2008 I'm assuming you're looking for just one nite, 2/16? If so, seems like you may have already bid too high...I am not sure what this means? I can't move to a lower bid?You don't say if you're looking for the nicest hotel at $150 or less OR if you're looking for the least expensive 'acceptable' hotel. I have found the following which may suit your needs:I am looking for the nicest at the least amount.Radisson on Lexington for $135/niteHOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in MTE for $139/nite (matches both the Grand Hyatt and the InterContinental Barclay so eithe of those would be our best guess... i'd give the edge on this one to the InterContinental)I would love to book straight up with your suggested options without having to bid.I will use the links. When I click the HOTWIRE link and then the 4*@2* rates (new york) it seems that the check in dates are 2/17 and after and also $145 or more. Am I missing something when you suggest G'Hyatt or InterConn?THANKS SO MUCH SO FAR!!
pfarrelli Posted February 16, 2008 Author Report Posted February 16, 2008 I have a follow-up question. How do you know (though I can't find what you are referring to yet as you might gather from my previous reply) what "something matches" up to? In this case you suggested G'Hyatt or inter'Conn.BTW, I would love to stay there as to get out of town quicker when we need to via GCS.Also, Raddison is showing no availability for 2/16.Thanks again.
thereuare Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 If so, seems like you may have already bid too high...There are 3* hotels available for amounts less than you have already bid. When I click the HOTWIRE link and then the 4*@2* rates (new york) it seems that the check in dates are 2/17 and after and also $145 or more. Am I missing something when you suggest G'Hyatt or InterConn? After clicking our HOTWIRE link, look to the left of the page and fill-in the search box with your city and dates (or use the search box on the top left corner of our own page)... either of these will take you to the offerings for NYC on your date. When doing so, you should see a 4* hotel in teh MTE zone for $139/nite (your price may differ slightly)Also, Raddison is showing no availability for 2/16.It's available thru THIS SITE. pfarrelli Posted February 16, 2008 Author Report Posted February 16, 2008 okay .. I am perplexed.....I did what you say on your HOTWIRE link ... and I fill in the box .. and for the night of the 16th I see no 4* even close to under under $220 (or so) in Midtown.I also click the Radison link you give me and when I put in tomorrow night the 16th it responds with ...."Hotel is not available for requested dates. Please try another hotel or revise your dates of stay."further thoughts? TYVM .. again
thereuare Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 Hmmm...I'm fairly certain i put the right date in but it's not there anymore. Are you willing to stay Downtown? The Gild Hall is a new 'chic' hotel, has good reviews, and is available for $144/nite thru Quickbook.Could you make this work for your needs? pfarrelli Posted February 16, 2008 Author Report Posted February 16, 2008 Bummer .. I suspected it mighta ben a wrong date entry. That hotel is too far DT. We have limited time, coming in from Newark tomorrow evening and leaving through Grand Central early afternoon Sunday with a bunch of luggage. We have a semi-planned escapade through midtown, and possibly as far down as Greenwich Village.Well, any further help is welcome, otherwise I don't know, I guess I just shell out the bux or just keep trying.I wonder if there is something going on in the city tomorrow night. It seems very booked.Thanks.PF
thereuare Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 I wonder if there is something going on in the city tomorrow night. It seems very booked. It's last minute... if you look at our Priceline and Hotwire Calenar of Wins you'll see LOTS of wins in this area for this nite at $150 and under. Hotels adjusted their prices in an attempt to get as close to full occupancy as they can... so many/most rooms are already filled.Use our BetterChecker to assist in your rate search. If you're willing to spend the "big bucks" Quickbook has the Affinia Dumont for $249/nite which gets great reviews. However, for the price, i think i'd reconsider the Gild Hotel... you hop in a cab to the hotel, drop off your luggage, use subways throughout your stay, then hop in a cab to Grand Central after your trip... with limited time in NYC and lots of things on your agenda to do, how often will you be returning to the hotel during the day? pfarrelli Posted February 16, 2008 Author Report Posted February 16, 2008 I tried a little longer and thought .. "what the heck .. let's give it up and wait til morning".Doing so, I woke up to find our flight to NYC is delayed 6 hours removing any need for a room in NYC as there will be no time to enjoy the city. How ironic is that?Well I learned a lot and I will be back soon enough to click on YOUR links. You have quite the shtick going here. Nice job and a great idea!!!Thanks!
