Shakerbird Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Well, I am disappointed but my priceline bid of 69.00 for the night of 3/25 in Chicago 4*on the Magnificent Mile was rejected. BTW, I did use your link. Priceline did give me a chance to immediately up my bid for an extra $17 (86.00), but I declined as I can book a 4 star on Hotwire for $83 (although I think the 4 star is the Ambassador East, which doesn't excite me). Was hopping to book a room for less than $75.00 near the Water tower like the Westin, Wyndham, Drake, Affinia, or Amalfi. I can book a room at the Drake for 99.00 net (unrefundable) at Hilton's website and I currently have a $109 rate at the Affinia (refundable). Any advice or any other coupons/deals floating out there? This is a great idea for a website - wish I had thought of it!
thereuare Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! Why don't you try using a re-bid zone (Priceline Re-Bidding Explained) and bidding an amount between $69-$83. Priceline will usuallly take less than their counter-offer, so you do have a good chance of receiving a hotel within your maximum bid.If you're new to re-bidding please confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. AaronJB Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 You say the Ambassador East doesn't excite you, but bidding on Priceline for a 4* in the River North/NMA area could get you the Millennium Knickerbocker (although that is undergoing renovation) or the Sheraton. If HOTWIRE has decent options for a few bucks more than what a likely winning bid on Priceline could be, it may not be a bad idea. Just my 2 cents.
Shakerbird Posted February 15, 2008 Author Report Posted February 15, 2008 I am now trying to book a hotwire room for under $75.00 2 nights 3/25-3/27. Choices include:1) 3.0* Mag mIle $69.00 (retail comp @ 129 save 60) 3/5 Traveler rating 120 reviews Fitness / Internet (Closest match = Inn of Chicago?)2) 3.5* NMA- Water Tower $79.00 (retail comp@119 save 40) 3/5 Traveler rating 140 reviews Fitness / Internet/restuarant/business center (Closest match = Allerton or Seneca?)3) 3.0* NMA- Water Tower $79.00 (retail comp:n/a save 13.65) 2/5 Traveler rating 180 reviews boutique/ no-smoking/Fitness /restuarant (Closest match = Tremont?)4) 2/0*Mag Mile $86.00 no addt'l details listed(Closest match = no clue - hotwire list doesn't show any 2 star hotels in this area)Hope I typed all the details in correctly. Any additional thoughts on these potential hotels. Much thanks!
thereuare Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.I am now trying to book a hotwire room for under $75.00 2 nights 3/25-3/27Are the hotels above priced more than $75 a realistic option? Is the 2*, which is lowest rated and most expensive hotel above, an true option? How about the $79 hotel with a TA rating of 2/5... would you consider a hotel with such a rating? Shakerbird Posted February 16, 2008 Author Report Posted February 16, 2008 Seems like I have little choice, there is what I want to pay, then the market rates, sigh! Anyhow, these rates are the closest to my budget range. Before I bite the bullet, wanted to get a "2nd opinion" of what I might wind up getting. Thanks.
thereuare Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 The first hotel is a match for the Chicago Inn while the second hotel is a match for the Allerton, and the third is a match for the Tremont... that would be our best guess for each. The fourth hotel doesn't seem like a realistic option... the lowest rated and most expensive. Please use this HOTWIRE link to begin any purchases you make.Let us know which you decide and how it goes. Shakerbird Posted February 16, 2008 Author Report Posted February 16, 2008 The fourth hotel doesn't seem like a realistic option... the lowest rated and most expensive.Regarding the 2 star hotel, I had also considered the Marriott Fairfield Inn @ $129 booked direct, which is rated 2 stars but that hotel doesn't show up on your hotwire list. I just thought someone might have an educated guess which hotel this could be. Wishful thinking that it might the be the Fairfield!
thereuare Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 A Fairfield Inn would tyicallly show amenties associated with it. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
AaronJB Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 It is my thought that the 2* Mag Mile/Streeterville very well may be the Hojo (Howard Johnson), which I definitely would NOT recommend.
Shakerbird Posted March 18, 2008 Author Report Posted March 18, 2008 I will be in Chicago 3/25-27. I tried PRICELINE last month but was unsuccessful, so currently I have a reservation using a rate I got through travelzoo. 3.5 Mag Mile Streeterville:I see that HOTWIRE is offering a 3.5 hotel with fitness center, business center and high speed access. No rating or reviews are provided, but the rate is a best value of $89 and it is approx. 9.6 miles from midway. Could you help me identify this property. Thanks. I'm still hoping to find a rate around $85 that has a pool.
thereuare Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 I'm still hoping to find a rate around $85 that has a poolGiven that the above doesn't have a pool icon, it doesn't sound as if this is a realistic possibility at the moment. Shakerbird Posted March 18, 2008 Author Report Posted March 18, 2008 Could it be the Wyndham? If I search for 2 adults/1 child, same dates, a similar hotel comes up with extra ammenities (with pool) with rating infor of 4/5 , but also 9.6 miles from midway for $113 - 119. Could this be the same hotel, just priced differently for a different customer mix? Again, thanks! BTW, even though this is a 'HOTWIRE" questions, I see this thread posted under the PRICELINE link, is it because it is the same thread?
thereuare Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 All posts for the same stay should go in the same thread... once a hotel is purchased we then move to the appropriate forum (if necessary). The hotel you're seeing when searching for triple occupancy is likely a different hotel. The distances given are 'zone' specific and not 'hotel' specific, meaning that the distances provided are from the epicenter of the zone to the location/attraction listed. Therefore, all hotels in this zone will be listed as 9.6 miles from MDW.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Shakerbird Posted March 18, 2008 Author Report Posted March 18, 2008 OK, thanks. I will assume the 3.5 star detailed Mag Mile listing with pool and a 4/5 rating is the Wyndham. A new Mag Mile hotel just showed up for $114 and the amenities include fitness, pool, restaurant, business center and internet. No additional info is provided like rating or number of reviews. According to your website priceline list, this could be the Sheraton, the InterContinental, or the Swissotel. My dates again are 3/25-27. BEST GUESS which hotel this could be? THANKS! Sorry to keep pestering you. I had hoped that last minute a hotel within my budget with pool would appear, but I guess its the luck of the draw.
thereuare Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Are you now willing to spend $115/nite for a hotel room? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Shakerbird Posted March 18, 2008 Author Report Posted March 18, 2008 Yes, I would be willing to spend $115 if I can get a pool, be within walking distance from Water Tower Place, and stay at a 4* property with decent reviews. Ideally, I would like to find a rate closer to $99 as my budget is $250 for the 2 nts including tax. I missed out on a couple of earlier opportunities, thinking that as the date drew closer my options for a deal would increase, but this did not turn out to be the case. Would love to stay at the Intercontinental, or Marriott, that is why I was wondering about the 4 star with pool that came up earlier today. Again, thanks.
thereuare Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 A new Mag Mile hotel just showed up for $114 and the amenities include fitness, pool, restaurant, business center and internet. No additional info is provided like rating or number of reviews.I'm not currently seeing this property appear on my own HOTWIRE search... are you still seeing it offered on HOTWIRE? Shakerbird Posted March 19, 2008 Author Report Posted March 19, 2008 I'm not currently seeing this property appear on my own HOTWIRE search... are you still seeing it offered on HOTWIRE?Yeah, its gone, maybe it will turn up later today? Given that you can't verify the listing can you speculate on which hotel it most likely will be, Sheraton, Swissotel or Intercontinental as your guess it better than mine? The other hotwire possibility I am considering is a 3.5 mag mile listing with fitness, high speed internet, bus. center - no other information. Could this be the Wyndham? THANKS!
thereuare Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Given that you can't verify the listing can you speculate on which hotel it most likely will be, Sheraton, Swissotel or Intercontinental as your guess it better than mine?I would need to see it appear on a HOTWIRE search to see any additional clues that HOTWIRE might provide.I am considering is a 3.5 mag mile listing with fitness, high speed internet, bus. center - no other informationAre those the only three icons shown? My current HOTWIRE search shows a 3.5* hotel in this zone with four amenity icons. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
MissPoofy Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 How about the Holiday Inn? Thats where I'm staying.
thereuare Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 MissPoofy,The above hotels are 3.5* and 4* rated... the Holiday Inn you won is 3 stars and doesn't have the same amenity combination as the above. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Shakerbird Posted March 19, 2008 Author Report Posted March 19, 2008 The 3.5 listing in the Mag mile shows fitness, business center, internet (3 amenities) is now $86 nite. It comes up with 1 adult/1 child. The other 4 star listing with pool has not come back on, although I've checked several times today. I have four more days to either find a property that will meet my criteria, or throw in the towel and stick to my back-up reservation. A note to Ms. Poofy: I do see what looks like the holiday inn on hotwire for $105 a night - so I think you got a great price. Thank you all. Any other tips or advice is appreciated.
thereuare Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 Unfortunately the above HOTWIRE hotel has not yet been identified.May not be exactly what you're looking for, but the City Center Hotel and Sports Club is available for $85/nite thru Quickbook.Any interest in that?
