I've used Priceline twice before, but am new on this site. Often read the forum for advice, but now would appreciate some more specific. I am flexible as to area in London, something near what regular tourists would like, expect 4 star to be suitable. Would you think these areas to be in a good order? Westminister, Kensington-Earls Court-K, Mayfair-Soho, Bloomsbury-Marble Arch? Or would a different order of areas be more appropriate? Budget is $200 per night maximum. Is this doable?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

I can't say which areas woudl be best for your needs, but if you intend to bid for the best available price, i would focus more on which zones are acceptable rather than a particular order. Almost all users try for the least possible price in any of their acceptable zones rather than bidding up to their maximum in one zone, then starting over and bidding up to their maximum in the next zone, etc, etc.

I'm sure somebody else will reply as to whether the above zones are good for the typical tourist, and once you confirm your zones we'll be able to suggest a bidding strategy for you to follow (as well as comment as to whether your budget is do-able)

If you look at the Wiki there's a link to a good London web site.

One of the pages gives a brief description of the London areas and their pros and cons with regards to Hotels etc.

Have a look at the maps to get your bearings and the locations of some of the PL hotels.

So long as you are near a tube station you should be OK.

One warning:

The Tube is undergoing "Upgrading" and there is major disruption-mainly at the weekends- on several lines. The Central (Yellow) line has been affected quite a lot recently.

The zones that i chose are mainly for chance of a good bargain accomodation at convenient location are -

K-EC-K

BB-MA

Mayfair-Soho

WM.

I didn't realize the marathon was on same time. I'd better get on the ball!

... and is zone more important than price? :)

As an example, would you prefer a $200 (your maximum) hotel in the K-EC-K zone over a $150 hotel in the Mayfair-SoHo zone... or is your goal really the least expensive 4 star hotel in any of the four zones above?

Bidding history 4 star London

$105- K-EC-K not accepted

$110 added MF-SH not accepted

$115 added BB-MA accepted with Novotel London St. Pancras

I may have rushed this, but upon realizing th marathon is on this weekend, and that rooms were filling upfast, felt a little pressure to get this done. Pleased with the result!
