117westwood Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 I'm going to NYC with 5 other people for Memorial Day. We will be there from May 23rd through May 26th (three nights). I have used Priceline bidding once before (for a hotel in Philadelphia) very successfully and would like to use it again. We are going to get 2 rooms (I know that the bed situation may pose a problem, but several of the people going are children who can sleep on the floor), and we'd like to be in Midtown (Times Square would be nice, but it's really not very important) in a 4 star hotel. We might be willing to go to a 3 star, but I want to try for a 4 star first.I've been bidding up to $140 per night, which is my limit, but no luck so far. I'm feeling a little discouraged because when I bid on the hotel in Philly my first offer was accepted immediately. My questions are:1) Is $140 per night unrealistic for Memorial Day Weekend in Manhattan for a 4 star hotel? What about for a 3 star?2) Am I bidding too soon? If I wait until closer to the date will I be more likely to get what I want?
thereuare Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!Which zone(s) did you include in your bidding when you rejected up to $140? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
117westwood Posted February 1, 2008 Author Report Posted February 1, 2008 MTE, MTS, MTW, TS, UM.I would be satisfied with a hotel in any of those zones.
thereuare Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 If you've already bid up to your limit and included all the zones you're willing to accept, there is not much you can do other htan keep try. I did look at rates for these dates and they are currently high, but it's still very early.I would find a cancellable back-up (try Quickbook which i see has some of the better 3* hotel for ~$200/nite) and continue to try priceline to see if rates come down at all.Keep us updated. 117westwood Posted February 1, 2008 Author Report Posted February 1, 2008 OK, thanks for the input. I will keep trying and let you know if I get anything.
