nyc2sandiego Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 PLEASE NOTE: read the tripadvisor commentary on this hotel, seems pretty far from city center. Not sure if I would have bid on a 4 star in eiffel zone if I knew I was going to be so far from everything. Will comment on my visit on tripadvisor afterwards.I tried yesterday and today, with my gf trying also. I don't understand the tips on this forum regarding picking a zone that doesn't have the star of the hotel that I am bidding for. I followed the instructions but there was no indication of a zone/star rating.Bidding History for today:Champs Elysees - Opera Quarter West: 131, countered at 175Champs Elysees - Opera Quarter West: 135(Champs Elysees - Opera Quarter West), (Eiffel Tower - Grenelle - Montparnasse) : 132 WINI did not use the savingsbarn link, sorry I didn't know. I will use it on my future bids. nyc2sandiego Posted January 23, 2008 Author Report Posted January 23, 2008 Could you explain it? Priceline did not tell me what star hotels were located in the zone I applied for, I looked all over the site. When I clicked on the zone and then went to the next screen, it didn't say anything related to this. I do understand the concept, but I'm not sure if Priceline is doing what it's supposed to on the foreign countries.
Rhine-and-Roses Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Your hotel is a good bit out from the tourist center of Paris, but it is still inside the permimeter highway (peripherique). It is still on metro lines- you will not have to take the suburban (RER) trains. Your hotel looks like it is closest to the Balard metro, which is the last stop on line 8. If you take that line towards the center, you will have easy access to the Eiffel Tower at La Motte Piquet. Go a little further and you will be at Concorde, which is right in the center of Paris, at the base of The Champs Elysees. The metro is easy to use and quick, but watch for pickpockets. Consider buying a "Carte Orange" (zones 1-2 unless you are going to suburbs) for a week's unlimited travel for about 16 euro. You'll have to have a small picture. The new Carte Orange has a chip so you just pass it in front of the scanner and voila! It is good Sunday through Saturday, so take that into consideration. Otherwise you can buy a Mobilis each day (or maybe it's available for several days?) if you do not need the features in the Paris Visite transport card. Mobilis is a bit cheaper. Having the pass makes being a little further out tolerable. You can run back to the room to drop something off or take a quick nap and not think about it costing yet more to go back and forth. Bon voyage. GA
