darioc Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Hi Still havent bidded on priceline for a car yet.Any suggestions? I would like bidding advice for the cheapest priced car. Also would you know if an Australian Drivers licence is sufficient for Hawaii?Or is an international licence required?
thereuare Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I'm not sure of the driving regulations regarding non-US licenses. In regards to your car bidding, what is the best price available thru our Car Rental Checker and what is HOTWIRE asking? darioc Posted January 15, 2008 Author Report Posted January 15, 2008 Best available rates i found was $34.55 per day inluding taxesHotwire was $32.95 including taxes Webcar hire was around $40 including taxes but I think it also includes insurance??This is what the inclusions areUnlimited mileage Loss Damage Waiver State and local taxes Vehicle license fee Supplemental Liability Insurance Airport Concession Recovery Fees and Airport Access Fees Customer facility charges Sales tax Am i right?
thereuare Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 I can't interpret the list of what's included in that car rental agreement... each company uses different terms and wording that it's best to contact them directly and ask them specific questions in regards to what is/is not included. I use a credit card which covers my insurance, so i usually don't need to be too concerned with that aspect.Without insurance, HOTWIRE currently seems like your best deal... what is that rate before taxes and fees (since this will help you determine your maximum bid amount). However, i would determine if the other rate includes insurance first as that will also have an effect on the maximum bid amount you choose. darioc Posted January 16, 2008 Author Report Posted January 16, 2008 The other rate does include insurance. Just rang them up.Hotwire is $24.95 before taxes
thereuare Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 The 'problem' is that yo don't know how much insurance will cost until you know which car rental company you'll be renting from.If you want to do the research, you can call each of the rental companies that priceline deals with and ask how much they're insurance is... then assume that you'll get the most expensive and deduct that amount from the $40 rate. darioc Posted January 17, 2008 Author Report Posted January 17, 2008 Rang up Alamo and Mational and their insurance cost was both $22.99
thereuare Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 So from there you can dedect fees, taxes and $23 from $40 to equal your "all-in" rate from the no-name company and figure out your price to beat. darioc Posted January 21, 2008 Author Report Posted January 21, 2008 I think il give priceline a miss on car rental since i can get 5% off my next bookings with the $40 per day dealJust rang hertz and they said insurance was $26.With insurance, priceline fees, and actual car rental the total will surely exceed my $38 per day deal. Thanks for all your help and patience
darioc Posted January 23, 2008 Author Report Posted January 23, 2008 Iv got one more question. Wasnt sure to start a new topic or not.Based on your experience is a GPS sat nav useful for Kauai and Big island or they quite easy to navigate using maps? Thanks
thereuare Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 I can't speak for Big Island, but for Kaui i don't think you need one... there's basically one major road that goes 270 degrees around the island, and there aren't many roads to get lost on.
