mls21 Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Hi all,I just found this site, and noticed that several people had booked the Westin on Kaanapali in June and September of next year for under $150. I'd love to do the same! I'm planning my honeymoon there, and we were hoping to get some deal like this. So, I was wondering on any help with strategy. I know I have some time, but what types of prices should I choose? I already tried it once today (well, twice, adding in the Kihei area, since I noticed that they have no resorts) for $140 and $155, and no luck. What should I expect?Another question, I heard a few people mention the Whaler as a possible resort. I'd prefer not to stay there. Is that one of the possibilities? It doesn't look like anyone's won that though. The only 3 resorts listed are the Sheraton, Westin, and Hyatt, and all 3 of those would work for me...Thanks!!!Edit: I really only want this area. But I'm willing to spend much more than the $150, probably upwards of $250-$300. But of course, I'd love to get it as cheap as possible...
thereuare Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding! Those wins were available for a brief period of time. Since then others have tried to win at the $125 rates (even for dates which were previously won) and were unsuccessful. Nobody can say if, or when, those deals might become available again. If you look at the Priceline Maui Hotel List you'll see that the Whaler has been reported to the board as a priceline win... enter "Whaler" in the Quick Search box in the blue banner at the top of the board to see those wins. Not sure if this precludes you from bidding further. How high are you willing to bid at this point in time? mls21 Posted January 11, 2008 Author Report Posted January 11, 2008 Thanks for the info! As for how high, I'm not exactly sure. As I mentioned, I'm willing to go up to the $250-300 price range - I still think that's a good deal. But if I can get it for less I'd love to. Since I have a good amount of time before I need to book this, I figured I can play around a bit. But it sounds like you suggest going higher than the $125-150 range, since they haven't been successful for a little while. Also, it doesn't seem like anyone's won much recently. Do you think I should start bidding around $200 for now?
thereuare Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 I would probably go up to $200 at this point, but not starting at $200. Following something such as:Day1:Bid $165, add re-bid zone at $175.Day2:Bid $185, add re-bid zone at $190.Day3:Bid $195, add re-bid zone at $200. mls21 Posted January 14, 2008 Author Report Posted January 14, 2008 Thanks for the advice. I actually went up to $230 today, and still no luck. Would you recommend holding off for a bit? I know we can forsee exactly what will happen with these prices, but do you think it might come down a bit in the next few months? I have a good amount of time to wait, so if the prices fluctuate a lot I'll just keep plugging away...
thereuare Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 As you say, it's hard (impossible?) to predict which way prices will go from here... but with time on your side i would cap your bidding here, or maybe another $5 to $235, and try again in a few weeks. c00624 Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I'm new to this but I am also researching a stay on Maui next fall (sometime in September). I noticed that most fall priceline wins at reasonable prices were either in November/early December (almost a year prior) OR most were several months before (beginning in June, July) for August/Sept/Oct. I know there are no guarantees but I will be saving my energy for then. In fact, I noticed a post toward the end of January last year where someone speculated there weren't any more bargains on Maui. Then a few months later the PL wins picked up again. I would guess that hotels know most people are planning their vacations at the beginning of the year and want to get top dollar. I will post the results here when I do begin bidding and use the links. This site is a great resource.
bluebee Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 I'm also looking for resort on Maui, Kaanapali area. Dates are March 1-4, 2008. I've only bid up to $180 though willing to go higher, maybe $250-300. With my dates coming up pretty soon, should I be bidding higher? Also, is it true that there are no resorts in the Kihei area, so safe to add that zone and rebid?
