Priceline Hotel: 3* Syracuse (University) Renaissance

I'm new to this whole priceline thing but i'm looking to get a cheap or at least a discounted price for new years in syracuse.

I want to stay in the syracuse university zone. The other zones have hotels located on the outside of the city and that does not work for me. I feel like my options are pretty limited here, but how do i go about bidding on priceline? I'm looking for a 3 star or better.

At the 3* level you have two re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 3* University...

Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $70, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.

Select 3* University and re-bid zone2...

Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone1...

Bid $80.

If rejected let us know and we'll revise to try again in 24 hours (or look at other options).

I understand the method of how to bid, but a couple more questions that i couldn't find the answers too:

how do you know where to start bidding? You suggested to start bidding at 65...why not something lower like $50?

When you say close the browser, do you just close it or quit the browser? and what does 'closing' the browser do?

Based upon current hotel rates in the area. I don't think $50 has a realistic chance of winning and you don't have that much time since your stay is just over a week away. $65 may or may not succeed as well, but it's a more realistic starting point. (imo)

I'm not sure the differenct between close and quit... but you need to click the 'x' on the top right corner of the browser in order to close it (ie- not minimize it). Doing so, and following the strategy above, gives you an extra bidding opportunity.

Thanks for all of your help! I got the hotel i wanted for $85 for new years eve. I'm happy with it.

It was the only 3* hotel in the zone so i knew which one i was going to get, just had to find the right price.

The hotel that i received was the Renaissance Syracuse Downtown Hotel. It is owned by Marriott and is in the University zone on priceline.
