Crissy Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 This is my first post, I hope I am able to give all the information you need! I am new to this Board, but not to Priceline...I've used priceline for years and have had some good luck. On this one, I'd like some advice:We will be traveling to the Big Island January 30, 2008 through February 8, 2008. Ideally we would like the Hilton Waikoloa - the cheapest rate on the hotel's site is $259. I started bidding at $150 and then $153 using Hilo as a free re-bid. My latest was up to $177. My question is should I hold off on bidding for a while, is it possible I am going to get this hotel under $200? Our other option is the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort. Their website rates are $199 and I have bid up to $145 on this one. Any advise, suggestion you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you need more information. Thanks!
thereuare Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!First i'l throw out the disclaimer that it's riskly to be "counting on" specific hotels when using the opaque providers... you're not bidding on a specific hotel (but as you've used the opaques before i'm sure you know this). Our other option is the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort. Their website rates are $199 and I have bid up to $145 on this oneHOTWIRE is showing what has previously been reported to be the Sheraton for $159/nite, so i would think you're very close to a successful bid if you're willing to go up a few more dollars (or could just take the HOTWIRE offer). Also note that at the Hilton Waikoloa there is a rate change during your stay, so if this zone is your first priority, you may want to consider SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID. (although rates are still a little higher than when we usually see accepted bids)Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. Crissy Posted November 28, 2007 Author Report Posted November 28, 2007 Thanks for the advice. I think I'll keep trying a few more times and if nothing, hold off for a couple weeks and start over. I still have some time. I will be sure to post here when I get a win!
Crissy Posted December 29, 2007 Author Report Posted December 29, 2007 Hello again! I wasn't sure if I should edit my original post or not, so let me know if I need to change this!I finally got a win!Hilton Waikoloa Village - Resort1/30/08 - 2/8/08 (9 nights)$130 per nightI was so suprised to get this! I had kind of decided I would wait until after the first of the year to really concentrate on bidding, so I was lowballing this are and Kona, every couple of days. I would start with Waikoloa, Resort and bid $125 then add Hilo for $130. The next day I would bid Kona, Resort $100 and add Hilo for $105. I kept doing this for a couple weeks (on and off) and a couple days ago it actually worked! The lowest rate on Hilton's website is currently $279. We are very pleased with this! Thanks for your help! Let me know if you would like any more info from my bidding!Crissy
