Melsey Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 HI there, this is my first post. I would appreciate your help!Im looking to go to Brussels for one night in December (6th)want to stay ideally in a 4* hotel. What price would you say I bid in order to be successful. Of course I understand you have no idea but what is the average for this city?Thank you!
thereuare Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!I assume you only want to stay in the Brussels zone (and not the Airport zone?)What is your maximum bid for this stay? We'll then be able to suggest a starting point. Melsey Posted November 24, 2007 Author Report Posted November 24, 2007 Hi therewell I have a price of about $200 in mindnot really sure if its enoughso also looking for advice on what prices are likely to get me somewherethanks!

Melsey Posted November 24, 2007 Author Report Posted November 24, 2007 sorry, yes only the Brussels zone (city centre)
thereuare Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 Looking at this in a bit more detail...How important is the "4 star" rating? The reson i ask is because if you search on HOTWIRE there is a 4* hotel at $255/nite... but a 3.5* for just $106/nite. Priceline and HOTWIRE used different rating systems, so it is possible (likely?) that the 3.5* on HOTWIRE is actually a 3* on Priceline (since priceline doesn't use a 3.5* rating in their system)... but given the price difference would this be an acceptable alternative given the price difference, and enable you to lower your maximum bid by nearly half?Let us know your thoughts and we'll advise accordingly. Melsey Posted November 24, 2007 Author Report Posted November 24, 2007 so are you saying that I could maybe get a 3.5* on hotwire for less than $105 as I get to bid for it?Does it show what the hotel is for that price?
thereuare Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 The 3.5* on HOTWIRE has not yet been identified, but here is the point/question...You say you're willing to bid up to $200 for a 4* hotel, but with a 3.5* available on HOTWIRE for just $105, do you want to perhaps lower your maximum bid for a 4* hotel. For most people, at some point (as you approach $200) a 3.5* on HOTWIRE at $105 would seem to be a better value than continuing to bid upwards of $200.Does that make sense? Melsey Posted November 25, 2007 Author Report Posted November 25, 2007 ok, so can you give me prices you think I should bid?
thereuare Posted November 26, 2007 Report Posted November 26, 2007 We'll be happy to suggest a strategy for you to follow, but first we'll need to know of the 3.5* on HOTWIRE at $105 would be sufficient for your needs... you originally requested a 4* at up to $200, but if this 3.5* is sufficient, then obviously we would suggest a different approach which didn't go as high as $200. thereuare Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 You have no re-bid zones available so just one shot at the 4* every 24 hours.I'd make my first bid on priceline for a 4* hotel at $60.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
