mmj3 Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 Yes, quite expensive time. But I'm relocating to city and need a place to stay while I search for a place to live.Is there any chance of getting 3* or 4* at a decent price? I've tried up to $190/night for all of Manhattan and had no success. and I'm not seeing other wins with these dates to know what I should expect to pay. I wanted to spend less than $200, but could pay $250. Thanks!
thereuare Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! This is one of the most expensive weekends of the year in NYC and based upon current prices i'm doubtful $250 will be enough. Will you have a car? Would you consider staying in NJ and commuting to Manhattan each day? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
mmj3 Posted November 20, 2007 Author Report Posted November 20, 2007 I won't have a car. I would consider staying in NJ if commuting was easy via PATH or something. Can you recommend something? I was planning on flying into LGA though.I've gone up to $325 and still no luck.
mmj3 Posted November 20, 2007 Author Report Posted November 20, 2007 Traveling to Manhattan 12/7-12/10 (yes, one of the most busy weekends of the year). Wasn't having much luck on Priceline but, Hotwire has a 3* SOHO hotel which I believe to be Club Quarters Downtown based on specs for $339/night. Decent hotel? Enough in the area?
thereuare Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 It's not a $300/nite hotel experience, but as you point out, it's a very expensive weekend in the city. It'll be clean and sufficient, but on most other nites would be a 'fair' deal at half this price.Downtown Manhattan is usually fairly quiet on the weekends. Is the hotel still offered, and at the same price, if you search HOTWIRE for just the first 2 nites of your stay? mmj3 Posted November 21, 2007 Author Report Posted November 21, 2007 Unfortunately, no. Since the hotels were so expensive, I was thinking about changing my plans to stay only 12/7-12/9. All that remains is a 4* in Soho ($449/night) or 3* in MTE ($461/night). Is this the best that I'm going to be able to get?
thereuare Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 Could you change your dates to 12/8-12/10? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
mmj3 Posted November 21, 2007 Author Report Posted November 21, 2007 Could you change your dates to 12/8-12/10?I suppose. Prices don't get much better though. Do I have a better chance of winning something on Priceline with those dates?
thereuare Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 If you're still willing to split the purchase you'll see a BIG difference...12/8/07 you could book the The Wall Street District Hotel for $299/nite thru Quickbook(another option this nite is the sleek and new Gild Hotel, for $309-$339/nite, but this is a 'soft opening' and apparently many services won't be available)and12/9/07 HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the MTE for $169/nite (most likely Grand Hyatt or Inter-Continental)This will put you between your original target of $200-$225/nite (average)Will the above work for your needs? mmj3 Posted November 21, 2007 Author Report Posted November 21, 2007 Is the Gild Hotel not the Wall Street District Hotel? I thought they were switching names on Dec 1. I'll check with my traveling companion to see if she'd be willing to switch. I'm all for saving...Thanks for the suggestions! I'll let you know what we do.
mmj3 Posted November 21, 2007 Author Report Posted November 21, 2007 Ok. We've split the reservation. 12/8 at Wall Street District Hotel (which changes names on Dec 1 to Gild Hotel, but hopefully won't change rates!) for $299 through Quikbook. and then 12/9 we're at the Inter-Continental Hotel for $154/night booked through HOTWIRE. Thanks SO much for all of your help. We've saved a ton with your advice.
thereuare Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 Congratulations on your success(es).I don't know much about the Gild (as it's not even open yet) but some people are very excited about it. This is a 'soft opening' but it's rumored to be very 'swank' and top of the line... please report back after your stay in our Hotel Review section. The Inter-Continental is a great hotel too and you got an excellent price. Can you please add the amenities that HOTWIRE showed before your purchase... you can still view these by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY STUFF link near the top of their home page. Thanks for posting your results and for using our HOTWIRE and Quickbook links for your purchases.Enjoy your stay(s) and good luck apartment/condo hunting. mmj3 Posted November 22, 2007 Author Report Posted November 22, 2007 Thanks for your help...else I wouldn't have these successes.I'll be sure to post a review about the Wall Street/Gild Hotel. For the Inter-Continental:4* MTECustomer Favorite, Fitness Center, Business Center, Tennis Nearby, Restaurants, Internet. It appears as if it is still on there, but at a price of $164/night. Still a good deal.
thereuare Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 For breakfast near the Inter-Continental i always recommend Ess-A-Bagel on Third Ave at 51st Street... one of the best bagels in the city and makes for a great, inexpensive, breakfast. Thanks for the follow-up.
