KaiUSA Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 Hi,I will be in NY from December 21st to December 26th. We are 4 adults and so far I a reservation at the W Times Square and Westin Times Square and can choose one of them until December 20th. The price is $440 each (inclusive tax) for one room with 2 double beds (already made those reservations a few weeks ago). Since I was curious, I just searched on Hotwire to see if there are better deals and I found the result below. Now, my questions are: Do you have an idea which hotel that might be and do you think that this is a better deal compared to the reservations I already have. Also, which of my reservations (W or Westin) would you prefer. And another question: would you recommend to book two rooms in a cheaper hotel instead of one room in a 4 star hotel (in terms of space and comfort)? Thanks a lot for your help!KaiPS: Great forum! Here the Hotwire results: - 4-star hotel in Midtown Central- PricePerRoomPerson: $323 ($579.00 retail price)- Hotel Amenities: Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-speed Internet AccessAdditionally, it is a customer favorite and if I click on it, the following comments are shown:- "Nice hotel, great location and very good price. Also, the service was good."- "The location was AWESOME! Right down the street from Times Square. The rooms were clean and nice."- "The room was what I expected with two beds, good work space, lighting and a comfortable chair. I requested the double room at check in when my daughter decided to stay with me and had no trouble switching from the original booking. All encounters with staff were pleasant. The concierge was especially helpful.."
thereuare Posted November 19, 2007 Report Posted November 19, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! The above hotel has not been identified 'as is', but if i were to take a guess, i think it may be the Helmsley Park Lane with lack of a Fitness Center icon (which it has previously been seen with). While the hotel still does offer a fitness center, this property has not been reported in over a year so it's possible that that this icon has been removed (no evidence of such, and these amenities are quite common for NYC, but that would be my guess)For four people in NYC I would opt for two rooms, since rooms are notoriously small, bathrooms are even smaller, and it makes for a more comfortable stay (as well, a "double bed" can be small for two people). As well, i like to "get up and go" in the morning, and if you have four people who need to shower, get ready, etc, it can be time consuming between the time the first person is dressed and the last person is ready. Naturally this would depend upon cost and just how much star rating i was giving up for the 2 room convenience... and both the W and the Westin are nice hotels. You don't say what your budget is, but for a bit more than you're already booked, you can book two rooms at $235/nite each at the Affinia Manhattan thru GTA Hotels (please use this link if you go this route) and the reviews are generally great. Also, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
KaiUSA Posted November 19, 2007 Author Report Posted November 19, 2007 Thanks for your fast answer!$450 (inclusive tax) is pretty much the limit. My parents prefer to stay at Times Square, thus the Affinia is not an option (for them)m neither is bid splitting since they don't want to take the risk to move. However, I just found the Millenium Broadway for $199 per night (if you type ZOO as promotion code) and reserved two rooms. Thus, I have the choice between W, Westin and Millenium now and can keep looking on Hotwire and Priceline if something better comes up :)
