Priceline Hotel: helpful to wait?

Does anyone have advise to offer regarding whether hotel prices could go down depending on the window of time between bidding on a room and the hotel stay date? I realize more rooms could become available as rooms as hotels id their unsold inventory. However, I dont know whether they ever lower their prices depending on how many rooms they have available.

I bid on 4* San Antonio river walk area hotel today and was rejected for $80 and $85 for a 11/23 - 11/25 stay. I am thinking on waiting to rebid when I get to a week within my desired arrival date. Could I be wasting my time? --iamian :)
