kamotecue Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Hi everyone! First of all, this is a great site! Looking to book a hotel in NY for Nov 8-11 and I'm starting to panic bec that's next week! Been bidding on priceline:3-4 starMidtown west or Midtown east (the safest areas according to friends)Been bidding $120 but seems like price is not being taken. My budget is actually $150 maximum. Never been to New York so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!CheersKamotecue
AaronJB Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Welcome to the site :)It's a very busy time in NYC right now, and, unfortunately, $150 is not going to be realistic for a hotel in the city for these dates. The cheapest 3* on HOTWIRE (a similar discount service to Priceline) in Midtown Manhattan is a bit over $400. Most hotels are $400-500 and up.I think you're going to have to plan to either stay outside the city in Newark and travel in or change destination or travel dates.Let us know your thoughts and then we can help further.
kamotecue Posted November 2, 2007 Author Report Posted November 2, 2007 That's awful... So will have to bid around 400? I think that's too much. Thanks for the info.
thereuare Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 To determined a 'smart' maximum bid, you first need to research rates for your dates (use our BetterChecker to assist) and figure out what you're best deal is thru the non-opaque providers. Once you know how much you will pay if unsuccessful with priceline or HOTWIRE you will then be in a better position to determine your maximum bid and we'll be in a better position to suggest a bidding strategy to follow. If unsuccessful, or your budget doesn't even appear close, you can then make a decision if you'd like to lower your star rating or look at areas outside of, but easily commutable to, the city.Let us know what the best deal you can find is thru traditional methods and we'll take it from there. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
