kpet Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 I just returned from a trip to NYC where I was unsuccessful in winning a Priceline bid for my stay prior to leaving. I originally had booked through the Westin promo of buy 2 nights get the third free, for the nights of 10/18-10/21, and booked the Westin Times Square. I had a back-up reservation at the Belvedere for the first 2 nights of my arrival 10/16 & 10/17 of $319 and $389, with the hopes of getting lucky through PRICELINE, since I had up to 24 hours before noon on my arrival date to cancel with the Belvedere. I bid every day for 10 days straight up until the 15th, going up to $310 with no luck.I ended up having to extend my stay for 2 extra nights and was in hopes that the Westin would let me extend at a decent rate, but the best they would offer me even being a Starwood Preferred Guest was $479/night. I saw that HOTWIRE had the Westin Times Square for $283 for the 2 nights I needed and was in hopes that maybe I would get lucky through PRICELINE with a lower rate and not have to move hotels. That didn't happen but I did get the Marriott Marquis on my first try for $175. For those of you wondering if you can get lucky bidding right before you actually arrive, my win is proof that indeed you can, as I was bidding the night before. It was a hastle to have to move to a 3rd hotel, but the Marquis was very accommodating and let me move directly into my room at 12:30.And I did go through the Savingsbarn link when I bid.
thereuare Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Congratulations on your last minute bid attempt.Glad to hear it worked out well and the Marriott was accomodating in allowing you to check-in early. While it may have been a hassle, i'm sure it was worth the $200+ savings :)Thanks for sharing your results with the board and for using the PRICELINE links at SavingsBarn.com to begin your bidding. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
