Aisling Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Hi again.Prices seem to be sky-rocketing this time of year and it looks like a 3 and 4* hotel is out of the question for me. I did some research on the 2.5* hotels listed and I am optimistic that these should suffice for my three night stay. (I've stayed at The Excelsior and friends have stayed at The Belvedere and LOVED it.) I haven't seen a bidding strategy for this catagory so I'm curious if the same rules apply as the others. Are the free re-bid zones the Upper East Side and Centrak Park South? I haven't started my bidding yet and my limit is about $250.00 a night. (Obviously, I prefer much lower. :) ) My trip is dependant on the hotel so I haven't made back-up plans. Any help and advice is appreciated. Thanks.
sparky86 Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 HiI would try HOTWIRE (link from this site).... I managed to get a 4* in soho (financial district) in downtown for the beginning of Dec for $244!! That site wont tell you the name of the hotel till you buy, but if it is a 4* then you can be assured it probably a good hotel. There is lots of good advice here at this site!!
Aisling Posted October 28, 2007 Author Report Posted October 28, 2007 Great deal Sparky, but I've been the HOTWIRE route several times. That 4* downtown hotel is $454.00 during my stay!! :) The cheapest HOTWIRE can do for me was slightly above $300.00 per night. Yikes.I'm not looking for a luxurious hotel with all the amenities. I just want something thats very clean and not in Jersey or Harlem!
thereuare Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Aisling,We typically don't recommend, and why you don't see much bidding, under the 3* level in NYC. While there may be 2.5* properties you'd be happy with, there may also be properties at that star level that you wouldn't be comfortable stay in... and with opaque providers you can't determine which you will get. However, it's your stay and only you know what type of property you'll be comfortable with.If you do want to continue to bid, which zone(s) are you willing to accept? You won't have any re-bid zones when bidding 2.5* in NYC, but for future reference you can read about re-bidding here: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
