VizlsaFun Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Planning to start bidding for this. I see the Average list price, but I have no idea where to start bidding. I couldn't find this in any other post.We are looking at Financial District or MidTown South likely.Any thoughts on how to start and what approach is best.----Update:This is for 2 rooms,I put in 7 bids as follows for two 4star rooms.$100- Downtown (DT)$125-DT/MidTown South (MS)$150-DT/MTS/Upper East (UE)$170-DT/MTS/UE/Upper West(UW)$170-DT/MTS/UE/UW/Upper Midtown(UM)$170-DT/MTS/UE/UW/UM/MidTown West(MTW)$170-DT/MTS/UE/UW/UM/MTW/MidTown East (MTE)Still no dice. Any ideas how high I will likely have to go?
thereuare Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!Based upon current rates, you're probably looking well into the $200's for a 4* hotel (maybe breaching the $300's). A 3* maybe available in the low/mid-$200's.What is your maximum bid for this stay? What is the best deal you're able to find through conventional sources (use our BetterChecker to help in your search) Have you decided to include MTE and MTW in your bidding (as per what you've tried above)... what about UM/CPS?Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow for your next round of bidding (as you can also improve the approach you took above) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
VizlsaFun Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 Yes I will include any area at the 4* Level. If I drop to three star I need to consider more. I did find the Doubletree Metropoltain at $275. Haven't looked in great detail at no opaque sites due to having 1 month lead time..

VizlsaFun Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 Guess I am looking for advice on how high you think I have to bid. My thought would be that if I can got thru a no-opaque site to get Doubletree for $270, that I would like to save at least 25% to go opaque. I think Doubletree is considered 3*. So that would say ~$200 for a 3*. Not sure what I should do for a 4*. What do you think? Am I dreaming

I think Doubletree is considered 3*. So that would say ~$200 for a 3*. Not sure what I should do for a 4*So applying this approach to a 4* property... what is the best rate you're able to find thru non-opaque channels? Based upon current rates i'd guess you're looking at mid/high $200's... but i would recommend that you let us know your criteria and let us suggest a bidding strategy for you to follow, as you can bid more strategically than you have been above.I'll add that HOTWIRE has a 3* hotel in the MTE zone (Suite, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Kitchenette) for $229/nite. This is a match for the Beekman Tower and that would be our best guess as to the ID of the property and it gets great reviews. VizlsaFun Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 THanks for the Hotwire Tip.I can get the Millenium Hilton (4*) directly for $269. Love that hotel. Can I expect to do any better?
thereuare Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Through what service... i'm showing the Millenium Hilton sold-out for the date above. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
VizlsaFun Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 Through what service... i'm showing the Millenium Hilton sold-out for the date above.I called and booked directly. They want a 2 night minimum that weekend, but I talked them into it.
thereuare Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 If that is cancellable i would certainly book it as currently that seems like a very good deal, and it seems like you want the Downtown area. However, i'd still consider the Beekman referenced above if you think you'll be spending most of your time in midtown or 'all over' the city.
