javellan Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 I'm pretty much a complete newb at this, but here goes. This is a tough one :)2 PassengersFlight dates:Arrive 12/27/07 from BOS (Boston,MA) (possible Providence,RI)Leave 1/2/07 VPS airport Destin/Ft. Walton I think flight fare rose between now and last week to $410 from $400.Looking for 3* and they only reside in Destin so be it. I have a wedding to be at held right next to the Ramada at Ft. Walton. The Ramada is so so, and I can't guarantee that 2* so might as well go with a nicer 3* in the Destin area.Ideally I'd also like to rental car during that period, ill take any 4door. Not sure if bidding for 2 ppl on flight/hotel/rental will give me the best bang for the buck. Advice?Yeah those dates are ugly for travel but that's what I got...I'll take any and all advice, about a week ago I saw a "special" priceline price for the 2* Ramada which was $90 per night I'm thinking it would be more for a 3*. That "special" price isn't there today, maybe I need to see it on thursdays? I forget if theres a best day of the week to bid. Also, am I screwed and I'm going to pay a fortune ? should I just drive down? :)Thanks in advanced!-Joaquin
loanshark Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 You may want to look into flying into Pensacola (PNS) instead of Fort Walton. It is about a 30-45 minute drive, depending on traffic from VPS to Destin, and about 30-45 minutes longer to PNS. Unlike VPS, the Pensacola Airport has a discount carrier (Airtran), which helps keep the prices of all other carriers lower.Just doing a quick search, Northwest has flights from BOS to PNS and VPS to BOS on your dates for $327. If you decide to book this, most of the car rental agencies do not have a drop charge if you pick up a car at PNS and drop it off at VPS.By the way... I also found BOS to PNS on 12/27, and VPS to BOS on 1/3 for $296 pp on Northwest, and $297 pp on Continental.
javellan Posted October 24, 2007 Author Report Posted October 24, 2007 wow, hmm I think I might definitely fly to Pensacola,FL PNS. Thanks for the tip!
