buckeyejer Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 I travel to NYC this time of year every year and I must be crazy because hotel rates are always ridiculous at the beginning of December, but this is my wife's birthday. Do you have a strategy for me if $300 is the max I want to pay? (Would prefer $250/night) Am I being unrealistic at these prices for these specific dates?Last year I tried priceline & bid all the way up to $399 before quitting. I know your advice is to have a backup hotel that you can cancel, but I have had no luck except for hotels that have some kind of NO CANCEL policy, which of course defeats the purpose of having a backup. Thanks so much!
thereuare Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 You should follow-up your Priceline New York thread for last year with whatever you ended up doing for that stay... then bump this thread and we'll have a look and comment on the above. buckeyejer Posted September 28, 2007 Author Report Posted September 28, 2007 I started my bidding at 300 and gone up to 380 in $10 increments using ME, MW & Upper Midtown. Last rejected at $380. I do have a backup now in La Quinta 2* that is fully cancelable at $346/night, but I am not thrilled about my backup. Any suggestions on simply improving on my backup without going over $400?Thanks
buckeyejer Posted September 28, 2007 Author Report Posted September 28, 2007 I do see a 3* on Hotwire at $326 shows as a "Customer Favorite". Has Fitness Center, Business Center, Restaurant & High Speed Internet Access. Shows a TripAdvisor rating of 3.5 out of 5 and has 100+ reviews. Just can't identify and am worried about this.

buckeyejer Posted October 19, 2007 Author Report Posted October 19, 2007 ...started at $305 using MTE, MTW & UM/Central Park South. Went up in $10 increments - ended up at $405/night. Expensive, but considering the dates I am satisfied especially since my backup plan was 2* LaQuinta at $369/night
