newyorkcitybound Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 Hi there,Am first time user on PL...Looking for 4 nights in NYC at a 4* with my gf to be memorable. Hoping to spend max 250/night. Any and all advice welcome. have been reading about re-bidding (thanks it is very helpful)...Just wondering about folks experience with the 4* rooms, are the rooms fairly luxurious? Am looking for a 4* in UM/CP, MTE or MTW.Cheers
newyorkcitybound Posted October 15, 2007 Author Report Posted October 15, 2007 I have made a series of unsuccesful bids and here they are4*165 MTE180 MTE/MTW190 MTW/UE200 MTW/UE/UW205 UM210 UM/UE215 UM/UE/UW220 UM/MTW225 MTW/UE/UM230 MTW/UM/UE/UWany advice?
thereuare Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!Given your rejections up to $230 already, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Would you consider adding the MTS zone?6 Columbus Circle is a new hotel which just opened, from what i've read it has the 'swank' factor it sounds like you may be looking for, but the rooms are tiny.. this is available thru Quickbook for $301/nite (a slightly large room for $323/nite)... maybe this could be be a good cancellable back-up for you in the meantime? (although not sure if your gameplan is to go this high or lower your star rating if not successful)Let us know your thougths and we'll take it from there. newyorkcitybound Posted October 16, 2007 Author Report Posted October 16, 2007 Thanks for the advice...might keep bidding a bit before going for the $301 deal...as for MTS, I have been advised to stick to MTE, MTW and UM/CPStoday i have done the followingBid MTE + MTW 215, rejectedRebid MTE + MTW + UM/CPS , 220 rejectedRebid MTE + MTW + UM/CPS + UE 225 rejectedRebid MTE + MTW + UM/CPS + UE + UW 235, rejectedShould I start my bidding much higher? say start at 250$? I was hoping to pay 260$ all in but i might have to revise that to 300$...thanks again for the help
thereuare Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 as for MTS, I have been advised to stick to MTE, MTW and UM/CPSBy somebody familiar enough with the city and understands the steep prices you're facing? (i'm local to the area)might keep bidding a bit before going for the $301 deal... and it may not be avaialble once you decide that you want to take it. Since it's cancellable thru Quickbook (always doublecheck during the check-out pricess) we recommend booking it, then cancelling if you can better your date between now and your stay, but at least you're assured that pricewise it's your 'worst case scenario'.Should I start my bidding much higher? say start at 250$? I was hoping to pay 260$ all in but i might have to revise that to 300$...You need to know your next best deal, as you can't really set an appropriate limit without knowing what you will ultimatley do if you fail with the opaque providers. What is the best deal you're able to find outside of priceline or HOTWIRE? Let us know this and we'll be in a better position to advise of setting your limit and suggesting a strategy to follow. Pickle Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Newyork,I'm looking for basically the same dates (11/9-11/12), in the same areas, in the same hotel rating. No luck here either, however I haven't pushed my bid as high as your's yet. I think we'll have better luck in our bidding the week of 11/5.Let's make sure to post any successes we have to this thread to help each other out.
metchiklaw Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 Also looking for NYC but a couple of days earlier: 11/7 - 11/12. Just a newbie starting out with no experience on Priceline. Same basic areas of NYC as Pickle and Newyorkcitybound. Are these dates (veteran's day weekend) considered busytime in NYC?
metchiklaw Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 I couldn't find anything at 6 Columbus Circle for less than $425 pr night from 11/7 - 11/12.
metchiklaw Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 $308 per night average at Quickbook
thereuare Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 metchiklaw,Welcome to BetterBidding!Since your dates are different than the other two posters in this thread, please start a NEW TOPIC if you would like help with your own stay.Thanks. newyorkcitybound Posted October 17, 2007 Author Report Posted October 17, 2007 I have done more bidding and wanted to report in 4*UM/CPS 215 rejectedUM/CPS + UE 220 rejectedUM/CPS + UE + MTW 230 rejectedUM/CPS + UE + MTW + UW 240 rejectedgiven that with fees and taxes a 240 bid means a room for 300, I am thinking of going for a 3*, any advice of where I should start the bidding?
thereuare Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 At the 3* level are you willing to include MTS?What is your maximum bid at the 3* level? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
newyorkcitybound Posted October 19, 2007 Author Report Posted October 19, 2007 More unsuccesful bidding at the 4* levelUM/CPS 240 rejectedUM/CPS + UE 250 rejectedUM/CPS + UE + MTW 265 rejectedUM/CPS + UE + MTW + UW 275 rejectedam thinking of going for 3* in those areas and going from 190 to 220.any further advice?
thereuare Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Based upon current prices i'm guessing that $220 will still be too low for a 3*.What is the best deal you can find thru non-opaque channels? Have you booked a back-up hotel yet? If you're not successful with your bidding, where will you stay (and how much will it cost)?Let us konw the above in order to set an appropriate maximum bid... we will then suggest a strategy for you to follow (as you can bid much more systematically and strategically than you currently are) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Pickle Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Is it possible the newyork is having difficulty because of the inclusion of a weekday? I'm not a priceline pro, but does having a weekday tacked on make the bidding more difficult? My bids have been unsuccessful, but I haven't gone as high as newyork.Up to $200 for a 4* and $180 for a 3*, same zones. Also, newyork, why are you excluding MTE?
thereuare Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 The weekday nite may not be helping matters, but my guess is that this is more so an example of a very busy time in Manhattan with premium rates. As well, as you point out, only bidding UM/CPS and MTW limits the number of potential hotels which could accept his/her bid. newyorkcitybound Posted October 23, 2007 Author Report Posted October 23, 2007 I have been bidding over the last 3 days from 260 to 330 for 3 and 4* in all the areas except downtown and to no avail....has anyone been succesful for those dates??
thereuare Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 ...has anyone been succesful for those dates??Search both Pricleine and Hotwire in the Calendar of Wins... looks like you may be able to at least find partial success at amounts you have already bid if you're willing to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID. newyorkcitybound Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 I wanted to add that bidding at these levels continues to unsuccessfulUM/CPS 315 rejectedUM/CPS + UE 325 rejectedUM/CPS + UE + MTW 330 rejectedUM/CPS + UE + MTW + UW 340 rejected
thereuare Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 At what point does SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID or lowering your star rating become viable options? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
AaronJB Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Stay 3 nights, get a 4th night freeYou can get the Westin @ Times Square for $336.75 average (non-refundable) per night at the link above - it's a "Stay 3 Nights, Get 1 Free" deal. You've already bid up to $340, so this would work and you'd know what you're getting.
newyorkcitybound Posted October 25, 2007 Author Report Posted October 25, 2007 I have looked at 3* up to 295 without success, not sure I want to spend more than that.as for splitting, am not too ken on that option...I will keep hunting around...thanks for the 3 nights plsu one link AaronJB!
