After spending a while doing research into what hotels, areas and likely costs\problems for New years Eve I thought, what the heck I'll give it a go.

I started at $67 and after a short time of searching was offered the 'chance to bid again if I increased my bid by $18.00'

I refused this and bid $70 using a free rebid.

Voila!

The Hotel rate for this date is $250.

Nicely done. I think it almost always pays to bid early (without going overboard) during a period that is likley to have peak occupancy... not to mention the peace of mind knowing your plans are taken care of!
