Desire 4 star BEACH or DOWNTOWN areas first -- will accept FLL (airport) for low enough price. No 4* in airport location -- thus allows for more bidding for desired locales.

How much of a savings would you need to make it worthwhile to stay at a 3* at the Airport?

Well, in 2005, I bid and got the Airport Sheraton for $38 per night. It was nice -- but of course there was the parking costs and the distance from attractions. If we weren't able to get the beach or downtown location for less than 140 per night ... I would be happy to get the 3* Airport location for under $65 per night. I would be willing to go to $80.

What is your maximum bid for the Beach or Downtown zones?

I would like to stay under $140 per night. I do realize this is probably unlikely due to the time and location. But, a girl can dream, right? What do you think about the 3* locations at the Beach and Downtown in this location? Any imput you might have is certainly appreciated.

TIA!

I think you have to forget about 2005 rates... it was a different hotel market back then (as well, not sure if you're stay was during the winter season as well)

I would probably be fine with the 3* hotels in the Beach and Downtown zones. The Sheraton properties get some 'hit or miss' reviews, but with their location right by the beach, i'd have no problem with it and wherever i ended up, i'd focus on the value received rather than constantly focussing on whether the hotel lived up to it's three star rating.

I do think you have a chance at a 3* hotel in the Beach or Downtown zone up to your limit, but don't know if you're considering the same limit for that star quality.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

I'm totally new at Priceline bidding. We also needed a hotel (pre-cruise) for January 4-5, 2008. A few pages back I had an entry titled "Why so expensive Jan. 4-5, 2008?" I think the prices are very high at that time because it is high season, and apparently there are many ships in port that weekend.

On another bidding website, someone wrote to say he got the Yankee Clipper (3*), on those dates for $150.

Maybe there will be some hotel deals closer to January. Since we will have a rental car, we opted for the Crowne Plaza West Palm Beach (3*) for $112.

Otherwise, the hotels in Fort Lauderdale are still sky-high on those dates.
