arkanoid Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 Hi,Let me first start out by saying that I'm new. I have not placed a single bid on priceline before. I am looking for 1 room in Jersey City or New York. 3 stars. less than 200 if possible. I know it's peak holiday season, so i don't even know if it is possible. I am here to ask you if it is possible. =)1st scenario (retail) through priceline i get this:----------------------------------------------------------12/27/2007 -12/30/2007 checkout date 12/31/2007 - 4 nights224 per nightHyatt Regency Jersey City On The Hudson 3-Star2 Exchange PlaceJersey City , NJ 07302 12/31/2007 - 1/1/2008 checkout date 1/2/2008 - 2 nights273.61 avg per nightHoliday Inn Downtown New York City 3-Star138 Lafayette StreetNew York, NY 10013 total cost 1443.22 before taxes and fees.---------------------------------------------------------I would like to actually book 3 stars in Jersey City and looking to spend at most 180 per night. 6 nights. (1080 total before taxes and fees) OR any combination of Jersey City and NY with new year's eve and new year's day in NY that yields a lower avg cost per night.my questions to you:1) do you believe this to be possible or am I just dreaming? what's a more realistic price i should be looking to bid at?2) if it is possible, when should i start bidding? I hear the general rule of thumb is to bid closer to the date.3) what's the lowest bid I should try without submitting "poor" bids? is 150 low enough?I have read the re-bidding instructions and I believe i understand it =)Thank you for your time and any suggestions or advice is appreciated.arkanoid
thereuare Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!1) do you believe this to be possible or am I just dreaming? what's a more realistic price i should be looking to bid at?Surprisingly rates are not as high as i would expect them to be at this point. You do have a chance near the top end of your budget (a better chance if you could even bid a bit higher)2) if it is possible, when should i start bidding? I hear the general rule of thumb is to bid closer to the date.See the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ. Given that will almost certainly sell-out for these dates i would bid sooner rather than later, but everyone has a different mindset.3) what's the lowest bid I should try without submitting "poor" bids? is 150 low enough?Let us know once you're ready to bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
