I assume you're looking at the Laguna Beach zone and the (Newport - Huntington Beach) zone?

There is no 4* bidding available in Laguna Beach.

Are you familiar with Priceline Re-Bidding Explained?

yes I'm familiar.

So in reality you're reallly just looking for a 4* hotel in the (Newport - Huntington Beach) zone?

As well, priceline only guarantees double occupancy, are you ok with this given that you'll be triple occupancy? (if not, you can still use HOTWIRE which allows you to search for up to quad occupancy)

I believe hotwire rates are higher than priceline? Also, 2 queen beds will be ok for us. Are the chances great on Priceline they will only give us one bed? will the upgrade to two or two cots? thanks.

It's possible that you could receive a room with only one bed, but i can't put any odds or a percentage on it. Some hotels don't have cots or, in large cities (such as NYC), have rooms that can't accomodate a rollaway cot (or if you do receive two beds, they could be two doubles, not queens). See the related occupancy/bed type link(s) in our PRICELINE FAQ.

Yes, priceline is usually a little less expensive than HOTWIRE, but HOTWIRE will enable you to guess the hotel beforehand as well as ensure bedding accomodations for each person included in your search, so it's a trade-off.
