lexbyam Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 I am headed to Chicago on Thursday 10/18 - Friday 10/19 with my mom and two young daughters. I would prefer to stay 4* downtown on the mile, but don't mind driving a half hour or so (3*-4*). My bid for 4* @ $99 in the North Michigan Ave - River North Area was rejected. I am willing to bid up to $150 for downtown, but of course much lower for hotels in the outer areas. I'm not familiar with the area, but of course, would want somewhere safe since it is just us girls traveling!Any suggestion for re-bidding or a good area to bid on that might be farther away? Should I try Hotwire? All advice appreciated!
thereuare Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! For starters, are you looking for one room? Priceline only guarantees double occupancy and you'll be quad occupancy... is this a risk you're willing to take? You do have one re-bid zone at the 4* level, have you read and understand Priceline Re-Bidding Explained? Is the Loop an acceptable zone for you as well?Have you searched HOTWIRE? Does anything show within your price range in the zone(s) you're seeking? AaronJB Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 If you are driving, keep in mind that you will have to shell out an extra $30-40 per day for parking downtown. Free parking in the burbs. If you are interested in staying in the 'burbs, keep in mind that hotels really don't start up until 40 minutes out of the downtown area. What I'd recommend is looking in Northbrook, Deerfield or Glenview. Those are upscale North burbs near the Chicago Botanic Garden (chicagobotanic.org), which is going to be beautiful in mid-October when the Fall colors start showing. The Chicago Botanic is in Glencoe, which is a very upscale North Shore burb. Also, are you staying 10/18, checkout 10/20 or checkout 10/19? It's unclear from the topic header.
lexbyam Posted October 5, 2007 Author Report Posted October 5, 2007 Thanks for all the great feedback. I will be staying one night only. I don't mind driving the distance from the suburbs to downtown. So, that would probably work out great. I will post my results once I get something booked. Thanks!
