krwshl Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 I recently won the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas, which was supposed to be a 4 star hotel. Unfortunately Expedia, Tripadvisor and Hotels say that it is actually a 3.5 star.I called and spoke to a supervisor, she verified that the sites stated it was a 3.5 and was going to forward the complaint on. She told me I would be contacted regarding a resolution ... though my reservation is in 2 days. Therefore, I am worried because I do not want them to place me somewhere I have not planned on.Does anyone know what they will likely do? Discount it to a reasonable price or ??

krwshl Posted October 4, 2007 Author Report Posted October 4, 2007 I tried bidding numerous times on Sept 26, 2007 in the North and South zones for a 4 star hotel, while adding the other areas that did not have a 4 star as free rebids. I even tried to bid just Fri - Sun, then Sun - Tues with no luck at a lower price. Finally got a counter offer for 169 and won the Monte Carlo for $158.I was surprised that I won the Monte Carlo, since it is considered a 3.5 star on Expedia, Hotels and Tripadvisor ... though it does look like a nice hotel overall.
thereuare Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 Thank you for sharing your win with the board (i originally thought this was purchases on HOTWIRE, but since it was priceline i have moved it to the appropropriate forum)....The problem is that star ratings are subjective, and each booking service (priceline, HOTWIRE, Expedia, Hotels.com, etc) use their own rating system, so what is a 3.5* at one service could be a 3* at another service and also a 4* thru yet another service. In addition to each using their own criteria to rate hotels, each also does not use the same classifications. In your particular case, priceline does not use a 3.5* rating in their classification system, so if this property shoudl truly be a 3.5* hotel, priceline needs to make a decision since if it more resembles a 3* or a 4*.My guess is that they have determined that this is more on the higher end of a 3.5* property than the lower end and therefore decided to go up with the rating rather than down. If this is the case, they will likely just tell you that they stand by their rating of this property and will not offer anything other than a "call us if you have a problem once you're at the hotel". If they re-evaluate this property in the next few days and decide it only merits a 3* then they'll likely give you the opportunity to cancel, but i doubt that this will be the road they take (as i don't think they will act this quickly in re-rating the property, and i do think it is more closely a 4* hotel than a 3* hotel).Let us know what you ultimatley hear back from them.
