Priceline Hotel: Assistance for 2 seperate bids - 11/19 - 11/21 and 11/21 - 11/26 strip

I just happened on the forum and read through a lot of stuff. I have only done priceline bidding a couple times in the past - with mixed results - but vegas bidding seems complex and prices seem to change fast so I wanted to ask for advice.

I am looking for assistance on possibly getting a better rate/hotel for the 2 seperate stays mentioned above. I currently have the Luxor booked for the 11/21 to 11/26 at an average of $130 a night (ranging from $70 to $180 a night depending on night). For that stay I was looking to either get a better hotel/location at the same price, or maybe a 5* place for slightly more.

For the 11/19-11/21 I am pretty much looking for the cheapest decent place on the strip 3* or better - or possible deal with perks (free drinks/chips/etc that more then makeup for the little more I would be paying).

Any help would be appreciated!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please use separate threads for each stay as the approach for each will be different and keeping the threads separate will allow us to ultimatley reflect the hotel won for each stay in the topic title. We'll use this thread for 11/21-11/26... please start a NEW TOPIC for 11/19-11/21.

For 11/21-11/26...

Is the Westin, which is slightly off strip, an acceptable property? Would you be interested in Treasure Island for about $15 more per nite than your current Luxor reservation (whihc by the way is now priced at $120/nite... please use our Luxor link if you cancel and your current reservation and re-book)

Let us know regading the questions above (Westin and Treasure Island) and we'll take it from there.

I don't think the Westin would work but it might for the other thread although there I am trying to go fairly cheap, I am not too familure with treasure island though, is it a better hotel then Luxor? Good for younger people?

I will start a new thread for the 11/19-11/21

If you're not willing to accept the Westin then it makes bidding on Priceline tough since you can't bid the South zone (but you can bid the North zone).

Both the Luxor and the Treasure Island are 4* rated hotels, but i would sooner choose the Treasure Island as i like that part of the trip better... close to the areas/hotels i like more (Venetian, Mirage, Wynn, etc) whereas the Luxor is all the way at the South end of the strip and i'm not as much of a fan of the hotels in that immediate area (Mandalay Bay and Excalibur).

The rate i saw earlier today at the Treasure Island was thru HOTWIRE and is no longe available, but after their booking fee it would actually be cheaper anyway to book diret thru the Treasure Island website for $149/nite (no booking fee and cancellable up until a few days before your stay)

Please use the links in this thread to begin any further bookings you make.

Let us know whatever you decide or if we can be of further help.

EDIT TO ADD: i just looked at your other Priceline Las Vegas thread... before continuing either thread, why are you splitting the bid as you are? I don't see any reason to split the dates as you have.

Well, its split that way because I will be getting in late on Monday (almost midnight), with friends joining me on Wednesday. So I was planning on going a bit cheaper/different location for the Monday-Wednesday to get a feel for a different hotel/area.

I think the treasure island might be a good place, I did read a few reviews and the area does look much better. But it comes out signifigantly more. As far as the Westin goes, is it actually a decent hotel? the location looks a bit worse but I suppose no worse the Luxor. We are all pretty young, so walking around the strip isn't a big deal really for us, I do remember that it was quite a walk though from the luxor area to like ceasars palace.

Also I had a question, since I am flying out late on the 26th but checkout is earlier in the day is there places you can store luggage until your flight? I read somewhere that some hotels will store them for you until later, but I didnt know if that was risky or not?

Just one room for the 11/21-11/26 - and naw I don't think we are willing to move during the stay. Pretty much I am just going to move because of the late arrival/want to experience a couple different places.

Also any idea bout the question for the place to store luggage while doing stuff waiting for my flight?

Having the hotel store your luggage should not be an issue.

So you'll be quad occupancy? Priceline only guarantees double occupancy and you won't be able to guarantee a room with two beds (sorry, missed this point in your topic title earlier)... are willing to take the risk that you receive a room with only one bid? If not, HOTWIRE will allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and that may be a better option.

We will most likely have 3 for those days, so I don't really want to spend the extra on the additional room - even with one bed we should be ok I think. I figure if I get there early enough on Wednesday for checkin I should be able to get 2 queens whereever I go though.

So why not try to bid for the complete stay and stay at one hotel for the duration?

Just wanted to try out 2 different hotels since I will be there so long it will keep it interesting and let me sample more places/areas of the strip

Would there be an advantage to bidding the whole stay? extra discounts etc? I haven't noticed that staying longer would lead to a bigger discount on the expensive nights when I was first looking.

You should easily be able to see the entire strip, and whatever others you'd like (ie- Downtown?), while staying at the same hotel. Usually the idea of splitting your stay is to take advange of a rate change, by splitting as you have, you're still leaving yourself a 'problem' of mixing midweek and weekend dates together (ie- low rates and high rates during the same stay).

I would either split the stay 3 times (isolating the weekend nites) or try for the complete stay... otherwise i don't think the split is worthwhile, as there will be little/no advantage in doing so.

Ah, but the Thursday/friday are high rate days because of the Thanksgiving holiday so almost the entire 2nd stay is high rates, just not sunday and Wednesday night which would be hard to isolate.

Not true...

For instance, you could even get the Venetian for $133/nite for 11/21-11/23... hardly "high rate" dates. I'm also see other 'good' 3+ star rated hotels around the $100 level; again, not indicative of a peak period. (but for the extra $35 the Venetian is well worth it, imo)

Really? Hmm, might be worth splitting I guess. I recently rebooked at caesars palace though for $125 a night all nights with $69 a night luxor for 19/20. If I could do $133 for venetian for the 21-23 it might be worth switching after a couple nights over to caesars.
