firescape Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 I am new to this board and to the whole hotwire thing in general. I am need of some help with a trip I am taking in January to the city. A friend and I are going for leisure to see shows. Planning on staying five nights. I have stayed in the Paramount as well as the Amsterdam Court and I was not very pleased with either. I am looking for a good deal less that 150 (flexible) a night and preferably around midtown/theater district. It doesnt have to be if the deal is unbeatable! As long as it is in Manhattan. We have never stayed in a "real nice" hotel so it would be a treat to do so but we do not want to give in on our budget. Our plan is to come in around the 15th and stay for five nights. We are very flexible on our days so whatever might be a better choice we are all for. Location would be nice if it is times square area but anything around midtown would be fine if once again the deal cant be beat for a Great hotel. There would have to be at least easy subway access to the theater district. Any thoughts out there?Josh
thereuare Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding!I have stayed in the Paramount as well as the Amsterdam Court and I was not very pleased with either. I am looking for a good deal less that 150 (flexible) a night and preferably around midtown/theater district. So why not, at least at the onset, set your bidding minimum to a 4* hotel?NYC hotels are usually relatively inexpensive during the winter months, so i think you have a good chance at success for a 4* within your budget, especially if you're flexible in your dates.Your thoughts? firescape Posted October 4, 2007 Author Report Posted October 4, 2007 Sure. I would be open to 4 star. is there any hotels or descrips i should look out for that might land in my budget.
thereuare Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 For the least expensive deal I would be recommending trying to bid for this on priceline, if you're open to any 4* rated hotel in the zone(s) you select... is that acceptable? If so, which zone(s) are you willing to bid? If not, there are other options/routes to take. Are you ready to begin bidding/make your purchase now? firescape Posted October 4, 2007 Author Report Posted October 4, 2007 If the price is right and I have a fairly good idea if the place in question is well received sure I will be open to any 4*. The zones could be midtown central, south, east, west or theater district. I really dont want to get too far away from the very reason I am going. As long as it is accessable by either a few minute walk or a few minute subway ride. I am cool. I just dont know how to do all of this yet. I have always stayed in Times Square area because I knew the places there. It was a comfort thing for me. If I didnt like the hotel...."well at least it was next door to the theater." I would like to have a better room this year, but once again...I would only do it for a killer deal. What do you say...or which hotels or zones from your experience would you recommend given the criteria?
thereuare Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 For myself i would be fine with any of the 4* hotels in the MTE, MTW, MTS and UM/CPS area. As you say you have had 'poor' stays in the past, and rationalize it by "at least it's next to the theater"... most of the 4* hotels work out pretty well, but if you do have a problem, you can rationalize it by "at least i got a great deal and only paid a fraction of what ohters are paying to stay here (who are likely experiencing the very same issues)"With Priceline you need to be willing to accept any hotel at the star rating you designate in the zone(s) you select. You can start with our Priceline Hotel List to see what has previously been reported and read the reviews linked next to each. However, note that the hotel list should not be considered finite and you could be the first to report a new hotel in the zone or a hotel at a new star rating which has been upgraded/downgraded (see the comments at the top of the hotel list). If having a good guess of the hotel you will receive is of primary imortance, HOTWIRE may be a better solution as you can often take an educated guess as to the propety you will receive based upon the star rating and amenity combination. Here as well there are no guarantees, but you have a better chance at targeting/avoiding a specific porperty. Of course this comes with a price, as HOTWIRE is usually a little more expensive than Priceline, but it does give you the ability to try to target/avoid certain properties. Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
