Previously bid up to $12, was accepted today for $13 at Avis (total $67.57). A 64% savings according to Priceline.com

Any chance I can pick the car I get from Avis, even if it is a lower class?

If Avis has lower class cars on the lot there is a chance they will allow you to downgrade. I'd tell them something to the effect of "i actually prefer smaller cars to larger ones... if you have a lower class car avaialble, a compact or economy (or say here: like a taurus or some other car you know that they use) i'd be more than happy to take that and let you make more money by selling this higher class car to another customer".

I wanted to follow up on my rental. I had a very pleasant experience with my Avis car, I ended up getting a Nissan Altima hybrid (which I requested at check in). I had a business rental with Avis right after my Priceline rental (same exact car). The business rental was $400 for 3 days, so at the Priceline rate I got a real bargin.
