otottmom Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 I'd like to find a 4* hotel in the West Hollywood (Sunset strip actually) area on Sat 10/6 for one night. I don't want to pay more than $120.00. Is this unrealistic? I would consider dropping down to a 3* at $90.00 if necessary. I think I'll have 9 re-bid zones, 4 of which offer 4 star hotels. The Beveryly Hills/West Hollywood zone and the Hollwyood zone are the only 2 I can stay in. Downtown and Lax zones are too far. Any suggestions on how I should proceed? Thanks!
thereuare Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 Please follow-up your previous Priceline Hollywood and Priceline Las Vegas threads with whatever you ended up doing for each of those stays... them bump this thread and we'll have a look at the above. otottmom Posted October 1, 2007 Author Report Posted October 1, 2007 Sorry about that...I replied to each. The Hollywood one never worked out through Priceline so we used hotel reward points and stayed at The Renaissance, Hollywood. The Vegas trip never happened.
thereuare Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 I don't want to pay more than $120.00. Is this unrealistic?May be a bit of a stretch but we'll give it a try.I think I'll have 9 re-bid zones, 4 of which offer 4 star hotels.I'm certain you have it right, but for semantic purposes... htere are 9 zones, 4 of which offer 4 star bidding, leaving 5 re-bid zones (re-bid zone = a zone you can 'safely' add)Assuming your fine with anywhere within the shaded region of the West Hollywood zone, you can try as follows:Select 4* West Hollywood...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* West Hollywood and re-bid zone5...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $120Any questions feel free to ask. If the above is rejected just let us know and we'll revise to try for a 3*.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. otottmom Posted October 2, 2007 Author Report Posted October 2, 2007 I followed your strategy w/the exception of my original zone being Hollywood instead of West Hollywood. I took your advice and looked a little closer at the map of W.H., I didn't like how far reaching that area is. I actually need to be right where Hyatt West Hollywood is. So, I chose Hollywood instead. I got rejected all the way through to $120. I guess I'll try for a 3* (and pray for Hyatt West Hollywood). How should I proceed with this plan? I absolutely don't want to go over $90.00. I accessed Priceline through the savingsbarn (as always). Thank you!
otottmom Posted October 2, 2007 Author Report Posted October 2, 2007 Nevermind. I ended up goofing around with Priceline and here's the outcome:I bid Beverly Hills/West Hollywood 4* 95.00 and was rejectedI re-bid and added Brentwood/Westwood 100.00 rejectedI re-bid and added Culver City 105.00 rejectedI re-bid and added Hollywood (where I really wanted to be) 110.00 rejectedI re-bid and added Lawndale 115.00 rejectedClosed browser, re-accessed Priceline thru savingsbarn...I bid Beverly Hills/West Hollywood and Santa Monica/Marina Del Rey and Hollywood 4* 120.00 rejected with an offer to raise my bid by $22.00 and not have to change anything else...I declined and continued...I then added Brentwood and 125.00 and won The Intercontinental Los Angeles Century City. This stay is for one night Sat 10/6.I'm bummed that I didn't just wait for more advice but after reading recent reviews of the Hyatt W.H. Sunset Strip...I didn't want to take a chance on getting it when bidding for a 3* in the area. Where I went wrong is adding in West Hollywood/Beverly Hills, it's pretty far from where we need to be. I should've stuck to Hollywood. Oh well. Thanks for your help.

thereuare Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 Thank you for sharing your results with the board.Sorry to hear the location doesn't work as well as you had hoped for your plans, but at least you did receive a nice hotel and got a very good deal... this hotel goes for nearly $300/nite if booked thru conventional methods. Thanks for starting your bids with the PRICELINE links at SavingsBarn.comEnjoy your stay.
