Hey guys....

Just wondering if someone could give me some info on what prices I should be betting for NYC 3 or 4 star hotels for Oct 18 -21st?

Also, which is better for me to use, priceline or hotwire?

Thanks

Welcome to the board :)

1. What is your max budget per night?

2. What zones are you interested in staying in? (Midtown East, Midtown West, MTS, etc. etc.)

There is no "better" between Priceline and Hotwire. Priceline is often cheaper, but Hotwire gives you an idea of what the hotel could be, whereas with Priceline, you have no idea which of the hotels at the star rating you bid on in the area you bid on you may get.

In other words, if you see a listing on Hotwire you think is a particular hotel that you want, it may be better to take that instead of bidding on Priceline and risking potentially getting something you do not want. However, if Hotwire doesn't have anything of interest, Priceline is the next option..

I would be looking to spend $250-$280/night. Hopefully able to get a 4 star at that rate.

I'd be going to NYC to catch a Yankees Playoff game. I know that Yankee stadium is located in the bronx and don't mind jumping on the subway to get where I need to go. Other then that, I would be there for some shopping and at night I would be checking out some of the top clubs/bars.

Is it possible to get a good hotel at that price range in the Soho area?

Can someone recommend where I should be bidding based on my above mention of my what I'm there for?

If you look at how priceline (and HOTWIRE) divide the island of Manhattan, the SoHo area is not an area in and of itself, it is part of the lower tip of the island, which also includes the Finacial District down to Battery Park... so you can't target the SoHo area and would also need to be willing to receive a hotel Downtown, which is not usually the first choice for the typical visitor.

Most users bid the midtown zones... MTE, MTW, UM/CPS, and sometimes also MTS for difficult dates (which, imo, these are)

Let us know what you'd like to do regarding zone(s) and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.
